I haven't seen counts for landmarks in either version of the sim, so I don't think it is more accurate to say. Photogrammetry generally negates the need for custom landmarks - I would have considered it as counting but Bing's 3D coverage in Europe is a joke, in the UK it's one minor city only. It's really the only area I can think of where MFS seems to have gone backwards I find it hard to believe that MSFS has "less" land marks when each individual photogrammetry city, of which there are around 400, literally has hundreds of land marks not even counting regular high rise buildings and structures. I think people are discounting the advancement while focusing on the downsides, which is that their favored area may not be what they want it to be. But someone living in Naples, Madrid, or Berlin certainly finds MSFS to have far more land marks. There are 50 photogrammetry cities in Europe, so it's not exactly non-existent. I think I have different mindset then some. Taking London as the example, yes, FSX technically had more landmarks. It also didn't look anywhere near as good overall. And what about Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Bilbao, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart? For every photogrammetric(?) city, I can name more that aren't. And it's not like they are minor cities either, we're talking big places that are missing very major landmarks that were there previously. If you live in Ireland, Portugal, Netherlands, Scandinavia there is no coverage at all, and I believe there's no coverage outside North American and EEA at all. I'm very impressed and exciting for the new sim but as I said, this is the one area I can think of it has really regressed. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/565545-do-we-have-a-definitive-list-of-the-3d-cities/?tab=comments#comment-4126928 Edited August 10, 20205 yr by ckyliu ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.

But I'd argue that in the grand picture, it doesn't really matter. The overall accuracy of the ground scenery in the sim is such a game changer that I'll gladly wait for a few particular buildings or landmarks to be added later, one way or another.
August 10, 20205 yr I'm happy to wait a bit, my fear is they just won't bother. Then we end up forking out loads on third party stuff (again) for stuff that should be in the core sim, if we want it. As I said, if your chosen areas you care about aren't covered, it is what it is. But that doesn't mean MSFS has "less landmarks." By sheer numbers it almost certainly has many more landmarks than FSX had hand-placed. FSX's treatment of landmarks was just more linear, i.e. bigger cities. What people forget about FSX is that ACES didn't just put landmarks everywhere in two years. That was a decade of land marks being slowly added over consecutive versions of the simulator. Asobo hasn't had the time to hand-place that much stuff and what they did place had to be much higher quality than FSX's landmarks. But like I said, my mindset may be different. I'm much more excited to be able to fly into a lesser traveled, mid-size, AI built city that actually looks real now vs. trying to fly over the same old big cities that were modelled somewhat in FSX. I've seen London. I want to go fly over the downtown of Knoxville now into an airport that isn't top 100 in traffic. Or into some mountain town in Europe that was just a smear on the ground before, if it it was even there at all. That's the advantage of MSFS. It's either worth the downsides or it's not for each individual. Edited August 10, 20205 yr by bonchie

The developers have more important things to do than crafting skycrapers or statues, they have to concentrate on the core functionality of the sim and make sure they get all of this stuff, like live weather, live traffic and so on working properly. Anyone with some skills in Blender can just get to work building their local church or castle or whatever, and I'm sure a lot of people will do so and put these objects on the FS market.

I'm hoping for a big freeware market. I think there will be one now that so much of the world is actually worth taking the time to upgrade.

If I had any skills with this stuff, I might even get to work on that myself. My hometown has a pretty large cathedral that someone needs to build. 🙂
