Notable Weather Events for MSFS Storm Chasers

Featured Replies

A “Hurricane Hunters” scenario will be day one for me. Whether it’s future Josephine or me creating hurricane conditions manually, I’m looking forward to diving straight into a storm.

I don’t know what Asobo has planned for scenarios in FS2020, but a Hurricane Hunters recon mission should be high on the list...

That's an interesting point here. So when it comes to the size of the trees, of the waves on the shore or the raindrops on the windshield, it's a simulator and we demand the most accurate depiction. But when it's about flying and decision making, it's a video game.

Everyone will find their own reasons to play MSFS. For some it might be to learn flying and learn aeronautical decisionmaking, for others it may be aerial sightseeing, and yet for others it might be for flying into the eye of a Hurricane. Each of these reasons are valid and worthwhile.

I have nothing against people having fun using the sim like GTA. I just wish some overdue issues related to flying a plane were addressed by the developer before diverting ressources for the sand box.

I'm not using the sim like GTA. I've been flight simming since FS4. And yet I don't make fun about people wanting to land their plane on the Golden Gate bridge or their 747 on an aircraft carrier, because we all started like that.

Besides, what do you think the developer resources were that you think were "diverted" for something here?

Not entirely relevant, but still:

Wow, that's one detailed word not allowed!  Oops, I mean Fokker.  I sure hope we get one of those in MSFS!

For me, every flight is a navigation exercise with no GPS or map cheats, and often without VOR/NDB.  A 1400+ mile dead reckoning flight Adak to Midway with no exact knowledge of the winds aloft, pure dead reckoning while having to dodge clouds... how serious do I need to be to be taken seriously?

Not realistic?  That very flight was done by Bob Buck in a B17 during the war when he was doing storm research, and under similar conditions.  I did it in a DC-3, flying to the limits of my range.  At least he had a sextant.

Actually, for flight simming, there are things that GTA does better than MSFS. 😄  You've read the Beta forums, right?

Hey that's cool 🙂 I love to do something similar, although Im far too lazy most of the time, and enjoy the comforts of my gps.

Well, I'm sure the trees are smaller and don't block the glide path. 😅

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I don't use the autopilot. 😄 That was a 10 hour flight.

Don't worry if you aren't tempted to do a similar flight.  Everyone knows I'm a fanatic.

No, seriously, I want to know. What resources do you think were diverted by Asobo?

It was in a simulated DC-3!  I wasn't flapping my arms. 😄

lol, I wasn't thinking you were fapping anything. Just sounds like a lot of static strain on your neck and arms 😉

Edit: Im getting old and wasn't using my glasses...

I do greatly appreciate you saying this. I am actually in the Caribbean right now.

So, thank you for acknowledging the residents of the Caribbean who could potentially be affected by these weather events. I hope others can be as respectful as you are.

Happy storm chasing.

Yes, I know how natural disaster nerds can act on the Internet, because I'm one of them. 😊

Everyone is always rooting for the volcano to explode, the hurricane to become really strong, or the virus to become seriously contagious. It's all fun and games until you're sitting in a pyroclastic flow, the Atlantic is coming into your living room or you suddenly have that strange cough that won't go away.

My hope is, that with this thread as well as whatever spectacular weather we find in MSFS, we can learn something about meteorology and find some respect for the forces of nature that most of us will hopefully not have to confront in real life.
