Installation question

Featured Replies

Good day all.

It might be an old question but anyway. It was posted in MSFS forum how to install MSFS2020 properly but I want to clarify a few things.

  1. Go to the Windows store
  2. Select My Library
  3. Look for the MSFS Digital Ownership item and click it.
  4. On the MSFS Digital Ownership page, click Install.
  5. Either scroll down this page or go back to your library to find MSFS (the standard edition, NOT any of the others you might have). Click on this to bring up its page.
  6. Install this on the store page. This just installs the launcher (about 900 megs).
  7. When this download is complete, you will be prompted to launch the game. Do so.
  8. You’ll get to choose some UI options and then the game will check for updates, and find a big one of about 96.1 gigs. Select a folder for this and hit the UPDATE button to start the download.
  9. When the download completes, you will be at the main menu page of the actual game.
  10. Find the Content Manager page of the menu and use it to install the extra content packs if you purchased them

3. I installed Digital Ownership after I download the game, not before is it mention above. Will that be an issue?

5. I selected Premier Deluxe from drop down menu and then download started 95,15 GB. Is it really necessary to install the Standard Edition first or Deluxe edition already contains Standard edition?

Thanks for looking.

My installation was similar to that yes. I dont know about 3 and 5 though sorry.

FSX: PMDG 777, Majestic Q400, QW 146.

I think I am in trouble.

After having bought the largest package without a hitch a couple of days ago, I just tried to download and install now. It shows my packages in the Microsoft store OK, and I did download and installed the ownership item, whatever it is called, then the sky fell in, so to speak. :)

I did up to step 6 and it showed an aircraft above KSFO with a flashing "Press any key to start. When I did so it just shows a black screen with the same "Press any key to start" flashing and music playing. I can not get it to do anything else for more than an hour now.

Is this normal? Is it downloading while still flashing the instructions?

Is your install working now, or still downloading?

Cool. I guess I may give it a shot soon. Still a lot of if in this thing.

BTW Here is an image of my MS store install page. The two item with the "!" in them say "upgrade does not work on this device"

My system is only two weeks old, and everything is up to date, so I don't know what the conflict could be.

Also is the install I should use the one up top under Manage? Just way to much confusion in this d@mn thing.

The only one you need to install is the first one. The two upgrades cannot be installed directly from the store. The sim will install those items internally once the main program is active.

It is also not necessary to directly install “Digital Ownership”. It won’t hurt anything if you do, but the main installer will load that as well.
