Rolling Cache is off..Does sim still save scenery after exit

Featured Replies

I turned rolling cache off and got much better performance with streaming scenery. however, I noticed that today my SSD is about 6 GB heavier...does the sim save the scenery it loads if the rolling cache is off? If so, how do I clear that after im done?

Isn't this a big deal ? Isn't it supposed to be the exact opposite ?

yes it is but its a known bug that rolling cache causes a lot of stutters and jitters. Multiple users, including me, have turned it off and the scenery loads much faster and with far less stutters. Much smoother.

I am assuming that once you exit the sim, or even the flight, any scenery that was streaming in is not saved if rolling cache is off.

Maybe its as well related to internet speed ? Can an internet speed be faster than the average SSD ?

shoot I dont know! I know that rolling cache off is not recommended for those with data limits. Yesterday I was flying all over the place and I hit about 10GB of data streamed in.

No way, I had massive stuttering due to the rolling cache and my SSD is more than 500 times faster than my connection 🙂 (3000 MByte/s write speed VS 50 Mbit/s internet)

word not allowed... i am afraid to switch it off...should i ? Should i also delete the rolling cache file ?

try switching it off and take a flight...youll see how much smoother it is. If you dont like, just turn back on 🙂 But keep your file dont delete it just in case. I deleted my rolling cache file and havent looked back.

Here the rolling cache thing seems working properly, your internet speed matters but has nothing to do with the SSD speed. Also it is important that the downloading data from the source need to be constant and consinstent.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Besides this do you think it comes on the account of slower textures load up ahead ?

I havent seen that yet...I fly around big areas like KLGA, EGLL, EGLC, KSNA, KLAX and havent noticed anything like that. Sometimes the frames will drop a bit but not too bad,,they bounce back up after a few seconds.

Main downside is if your internet connection is down for some reason you flying in offline. I really hope they will check and fix this.

For me, cache on or off is the same: heavy stutters when loading new terrain along the flight session.

But is not about the Drive speed only, the game does not load the files at that speed and at a constant rate so there is no gain between loading the game from a SSD and a NVME.

The game does not load the game at more than 800MB/s from my raid at peak time.

I noticed less stutters if rolling cache is kept around 8gb.  I had my rolling cache at 50-100gb and lots of stutters came with it.

Kind regards,

Tim
