Is true polar flight now possible?

Featured Replies

In previous FS versions, we were limited to how far north we could go, about N85° I think?

Has this changed? Can we finally fly routes like those shown below, from the east coast NA to South East Asia?

It breaks the VFR map, I flew north for a long time and never spotted land, but not sure if I really flew "long enough". Also, it doesn't route properly N to S across the magnetic dividing line, it just looks at all the routes as E or W, hence it wanted me to fly the long way instead across the poles. So the answer is, don't know, you can try a fast plane and see if you can spot land on a northerly route over the arctic, I never did.

Yeah I don’t think it works. Though I’ll keep trying.

Ahh that’s too bad. I’ll probably wait till some 3rd party airliners come out before I give these routes a try anyway.

That's incorrect.  In FSX you could go as far north as you wanted, including crossing the pole.  I did it countless times.  It was only in FS-2004 and previous where there were those limitations.

Thank you.

I've overflown the north pole in FSX and flown to South Pole station several times in both FSX and P3D.  NZSP gets a little bizarre.  I was hoping to do that flight in MSFS but NZSP isn't there to guide me.

If anyone flies to the south pole, could you tell us what is there, maybe get a screen shot?  Thanks.

I didn’t realise it was possible in FSX/P3D. I never intended to land, just over fly on the routes shown above so I’m glad that’s possible.

Alert, Barrow Island and Svalbard would be the northern most airports I’d possibly use.

I though p3d fixed this at one point. I may be wrong.

No P3D did not fix it, it was fixed with FSX.
