There's nothing wrong with that being your reason for wanting it, and it probably will end up with it at some point anyway, but saying we 'need' it, is nonsense. There are many more things need sorting out as a priority before that. Edited August 23, 20205 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I think MSFT is heading towards VR because look at how many topics about views are popping up. My hunch is they know Xbox users will be using VR...and PC is going that route. That's why no more undocking or cockpit views or instrument views. VR will fix everything. You just look where you want to look and press what you want to press....simple. No bindings...no panning...no views needed. I think VR version is being released in September. Edited August 23, 20205 yr by Aceman2020
August 23, 20205 yr @Aceman2020 I get it - you NEED VR. I can appreciate how cool it is and yet I would like to have a cockpit built with levers, buttons, dials... actual physical things to grab hold of and feel in addition to the physical stick throttle(s) and rudder. What I might like is VR with feel built in so when I reach out and turn that knob on the autopilot control panel I can feel its size and the clicking it makes between my fingers.. Haptic feedback is it called? Haptic feedback is it called? Ya I thought that too when I was hearing about VR because I had physical knobs. I also flew almost entirely IFR and didn't think I could in VR. Fast forward to now and I do all my flying virtual...and almost all IFR... however I do enjoy VFR much more. I have been where you are...you twist your HDG knob and the plane turns. It's cool...feels real. But then you sit there...glance at your chart...have 12 minutes to kill according to the DME. You run upstairs to grab some snacks...or head to the other desktop to check emails etc. Trust me...in VR the action of twisting knobs or pulling levers is visceral enough...it has a haptic-like ticking sound that is quite satisfying. I don't even care for getting haptic feedback back honestly...that's how little I miss actually touching the knobs. I would much rather have hand tracking. I still fly with my physical yoke, throttle quadrant and rudder pedals, and have a rocker chair so I feel the bumps on the landing. 🙂 Edited August 23, 20205 yr by Aceman2020

August 23, 20205 yr There is no VR headset for Xbox users. For simracing and simflying it´s 95 % PC 5 % Sony and 0 % Xbox. Though PSVR is the most sold VR headset out there but they run other games. Their odd original idea of not supporting VR originally may actually be due to Xbox not supporting it! Motion controllers do have rumble so you do get some haptic feedback but solid buttons feels better. You can have both acockpit and VR don´t have to choose at all. Muscle memory is great to feel where buttons are located. You probably use it already without VR. How often do you visually check the buttons you push while flying? There is nothing that comes close to simulate the accurate viewpoint of a pilot then VR besides possible those triple projector setups on curved screen. That should be pretty close if the simulation supports 3D. Though my experience with stereoscopic 3D is that there is artifacts. 3D is spot on on good VR headsets with proper ipd adjustments. Nothing give you a better immersion of escaping your living room and flying an actual aircraft that is why many like it. Also you get true depth perception which make you fly better particularly with helicopter. Sitting at home with a more or less complete cockpit and triple monitor setup, TrackIR etc is cool but it´s not even half way 🙂 Cons is hardware requirements and resolution primarily. Personally not affected by motion sickness but many get the equivalent with VR. Personally I highly doubt I can work with 33 or 45 fps in VR but I do have a modern computer and 2080ti so might pull it off at close to 90 fps I hope.. I expect to have to run quite low settings though as I preordered a Reverb G2 and it runs 2K resolutions for each eye.
