August 27, 20205 yr Anybody out there who like me bought the software in the 10 DVD set was perhaps surprised to find that once installed, the only way to progress to the selection of aircraft etc was to insert Disk 1 into your Optical Drive. I remember we used to have to use this procedure with a previous Flight Sim from Microsoft. However, it wasn’t long before someone came up with and ISO solution which worked perfectly and you no longer were required to insert Disk 1 into your drive. My question is, can the same procedure be used in MSFS 2020 and if so, what is the procedure.
August 27, 20205 yr Since this is your first post I will start with -- Hi Welcome to AVSIM! None of us bite. Except after dark. You may want to pose your question in the MSFS subforum rather than here in Hangar Chat -- you might get more hits/responses there. Mods: you may want to move this to the MSFS subforum Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 30, 20205 yr Ok, since no one has responded (stuff moves fast in this subforum! Your thread was on page 13 after just a day or two!) I will give it a shot -- at least the bump may elicit a few informed responses... I'm in the USA, where the DVD version isn't sold, so I would be going off second-hand info. For now, you might be able to mount the DVD as an ISO file (there is software that can do that) as you mention, and see if that works. August 30, 20205 yr Yes, like 'Mace' said, what you can try is to copy the whole .iso file of DVD1 to your hard drive and use for instance Daemon Tools to create a virtual DVD. With some apps this works, with others it doesn't. Drawback is you lose a couple of GB on your disk, the plus is you don't need to have your DVD player spinning. August 30, 20205 yr OP I'd be interested to hear if the .iso trick worked for you. I dont have the sim yet but would prefer the DVD set but the thought of needing DVD1 in the drive turned me off the idea.
September 1, 20205 yr Author Hi Mace, Thankyou for the advice. I will do as you suggest and move it. It's been some years since I tried the Flight Sim but am now retired and feel the time is right. I'm sure there are many out there trying to get to grips with the new release. Cheers
September 1, 20205 yr Author Thankyou for your replies. I was aware that the DVD option was not available in the States. However, being an old timer, going for the DVD option seemed the obvious choice. I must admit, I had forgotten all about the little annoyance of having to run disk 1 all the time you were flying. Probably because someone came up with the idea of the .iso file soon after the release of that particular edition that it never became an issue. Nowhere in the instructions is there mention of this requirement and in fact when you are instructed to insert the DVD, it makes no reference to which of the 10 DVD's is required. It was only because of my experience of the previous edition that I understood what was being asked of me. I am absolutely amazed that nobody has thought it important enough to bring up, am I the only one who finds this process antiquated. Very few modern computers have optical drives anyway, mine included. I have to have an external optical drive permanently attached to my computer. If I find a solution, I will post it on this site.

DVD in the drive has been brought up here before. Part of the problem is that there is so much forum activity right now, the thread gets buried on the back pages of the forum pretty quickly. Actually it was discussed here in this same forum a month or so ago. Mathijs from Aerosoft stated that people would need the disc 1 on the drive to run the sim. Just like, for example, their X-Plane’s dvd version. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel
