P3Dv4: Severe FPS Loss After Minimizing

Featured Replies

My P3Dv4 installation suffers a severe FPS loss after minimizing it for a while.  This happens with more than one airplane.  Does anybody knows why and if there's a cure?

I can begin the flight with very smooth screen pans and overall FPS.  Sometimes, If I'm on a long flight, I minimize P3D to focus on other things: social media, internet, etc.  If P3D stays minimized for what appears to be more than an hour, when I restore it, the panning and FPS becomes almost like a slide show.  This with no other program running that wasn't running when I minimized it.

Appreciate any help.

Do you mean, that once you bring P3D back up to the fore, it STAYS with slow panning and fps?  Never getting back to normal?

@Mace, yes.  I've used it like that for a while, 10-20 minutes, and it doesn't go back to normal.

I don't think that it's a good idea to send a real-time program like P3D to the background for long periods, as it changes how the OS prioritizes it in relation to the other running processes.  I've had it CTD when doing that in the past.  FWIW, the only CTD I've had with MSFS also happened when doing the same thing.

I have to /agree with what Bob says above.  What you might try @SAX702 would be to set an affinity for P3D (via task manager) prior to minimizing it, or possibly using a program like Process Lasso to do the same.  This may cause the OS to not shuffle P3D into the background so much, but I've never tried it myself.

I generally rarely minimize my P3D for long periods because it can be problematic as mentioned.

I recall having that issue and if I remember correctly when I performed an update to the latest P3D version it resolved the issue for me.  All I can suggest is double check to insure you have the latest version.  Then I moved on to v5 so the issue was not a concern anymore.
