Now that things are happening with gpu's i'm going to put together a new build for hopfully the next 4-5 years with minimal upgrading.

I'm therefore looking at putting an i9 10900k and 3090 gpu together, but not sure on the right mobo.I was thinking about the maximus xii hero as a good option as i would ideally be wanting to oc to around 5.2 all cores with aio water cooling any thoughts on this?

Also probably looking at 32gb ram any suggestions on that? Probably not going to be able to get the very fastest but would like something thats pretty good.

Are you using the hero mobo as well ?

At the price point you're looking at for the mobo you won't go wrong with the Hero. It's a good all round board and you'll be able to get a 5.2 overclock with it assuming your chip can get there which is what you'd expect at that price.

Unless i hear anything to the contrary i think i will go with that mobo. It does seem to be pretty good

I'm using a 10900K on a Maximus XII Hero...no complaints.  I will say that 10 cores at 5.2 on an AIO cooler is going to be pushing it to the ragged edge.  Best make that a 360mm AIO.

Yes I am going with the Maximus Hero XII also. 

Bob , when you say 360mm AIO you are talking about a  triple 120mm fans, insn't it?

Make sure the Z-490 motherboard you are planning to buy is compatible with PCIe 4.0.

That's right. I'd recommend the Arctic Liquid Freezer II as you get great performance at a good price - you can check out reviews on Gamers Nexus and other sites. The only thing to watch out for with this AIO is the headroom required if you're top mounting - you'll need at least 64mm between the top of your case and where your motherboard board starts as the radiator is 38mm and the fans are 25mm.

I wouldn't worry about PCIe 4.  Not gonna make any difference with the current generation of CPU/GPUs.
