Too low intensity of PAPI runway lights

Featured Replies

Am I alone with opinion, that runway PAPI light has an insufficient level of intensity? Maybe it's problem only with non-HDR monitor, but I think, that PAPI should be recognized correctly from more far distance in the good visibility day conditions, than we can see in MSFS. And I think, that aircraft landing lights should be a little more powerfull too. Ok, landing lights are only a cosmetics problem, but if I'm in a visual approach, I would greatly appreciate a little more PAPI usable distance.

I have that too, and I agree with you.

Intel Core i7 8700k clocked to 4.6GHz, GTX1080Ti, 32GB DDR4 RAM, MSFS installed on NVMe drive, Windows 11, Dell 27" 60Hz Monitor + Dell 24" 60Hz Monitor. Resolution 1920x1080. Game Mode on, GPU scheduling enabled (Win11). MSFS settings: High-End for airlines, Ultra for GA.

Can't say I have noticed this, PAPI vis for me is great up to 10 miles out.

I'm calling you out on this one! LOL. This claim requires a screen shot.

This, and the lack of aircraft awareness flashing lights on high rises is some of the small, imperfect things I’ve noticed.

Does MSFS model the various intensities of approach lighting? Does PAPI intensity vary in the real world?

i7-10700K; RTX 2070 Super; 16GB; P3Dv4.5HF3 & MSFS2020.

I think it's opposite you can see PAPI VASI, ALS, REIL all kind of light from a far distance. However what you can see furthest is a rotating beacon!

I made this video long time ago from w wing mounted camera but it's a good display. The video start around 10 miles out at around ESCON

The weird thing is that i had been to other people’s house and see their lights we all seemed to have different levels of intensity. In my case I think sometimes you can see the lights too far out compared to real life. But than again is different in other airports

I agree on this. Very difficult to spot them. Maybe its because of that HDR thing. I dont have a hdr monitor.
