As above.  You mentioned Xplane.  MSFS uses the top row numbers, not the ones on the numeric keypad like Xplane - I fell for this as well!  🙂

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

#: Are you using the num pad or the "normal" keys (above QWERTY)?

I was using the number pads. These freakin'  😀

They put me through hell. Thanks for the help.

 😄 No prob!

I wasted an hour on it as well, all because I read somewhere that beta testers had convinced MS/Asobo to use a similar camera system to Xplane.

All it took was that assumption to send me down the wrong route!

You can reassign them all to the keypad of course, but I had a quick look and its not worth the trouble as it bumps other things around.  👍

Obviously I use the word "idiots" just for fun. They are very smart developers. Maybe I'm an word not allowed for thinking that the key bindings would be the same as previous sims.

No, there are a lot more people than just me and you that have fallen for it - especially Xplane users!

But I suppose as the old saying goes, when we ASSUME, it can make an A$$ out of U and ME! 😄

I quite like the camera system now actually.

The 'controls' cameras are also pretty handy, but instead of the Ctrl-number buttons I use POV down on the joystick hat, then POV left and right to move between them quickly.

For in plane views, I hold the right mouse button down now and pan around.  But my main 'datum' view I always return to (and save to Alt-1) is a modified landing pop-up view (space bar) but using the right mouse button to tilt the view down a bit to show more of the instruments and yoke - it gives a good perspective on approach, and when just flying around.  I also save this view and a camera reset view to a joystick button for fast and easy access - works great. 👍

This is a good tip, thank you for sharing!

Does it mean the views you're saving using CTRL+ALT+# ( not on the keypad 😉 ) are saved per-aircraft?

Yes.  All user selected views are saved 'per aircraft' by default, which is a good thing actually.

Luckily, MSFS allows you to map the same function to a number of different inputs, so whilst my favourite view is on ALT-1 (after saving with CTRL-ALT -1), you can also duplicate this mapping to another input.  I use a nice handy button on the joystick, along with the reverse thrust toggle, mapped to a button on the back of my throttle.

It isn't always obvious how to do this in control settings.  I am not at home at the moment to check in MSFS, but I believe you have to select your controller, then there is a filter to show all possible functions, not just the ones currently mapped to your controller.  Then if you want to duplicate one on the controller, you are better off putting it in the second box for the function rather than overwriting the keyboard default.

Works well once you have understood how to do it a few times! 👍
