Alot of lagging and stuttering

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

So I decided to jump back in today and I have noticed a massive deal of lag and stuttering.

when I used to fly Heathrow on the very same settings which is “High End” I used to get micro stutters which was manageable (pre patch release)

today I tried the same flight and within a few miles of Heathrow I got a massive amount of long periods of lag and stuttering.vno settings have changed, literally just the latest patch.

I'm not really tech savy either just so you know 😛

Any reccomendations or is this a common issue since the latest patch release?

I get different performance on the same flight every time I restart the simulator, one time is 20fps, another it's 40, HAGS made it worse for me, I think...there's no way to get comparable results.
I like to believe that when I get 40+fps everything is working as it should, and not the times that I get 20fps, graphically I see no differences.

Hi,

You might try differential braking - (*) = left brake, (-) = right brake on the number pad. This has helped get around on the taxiways.

Thanks for your response, yeah I'm going to do another flight just now. what software do you use to check FPS?

Hopefully they fix this mess with the next patch

Just an update. I've tried running the sim with all graphic settings on "low"

No way should I experience this stuttering and lag with a gtx1080 on low settings.

Before the patch I could run high.

This is beyond annoying

I really don't think -- and I never have -- that the stuttering has anything to do with frame rates. My guess would be (and it's a big guess) it's to do with streaming and, related to that, memory management. I appeared to eliminate stutters by upgrading my RAM to 32GB. They have been tweaking things to enhance performance, supposedly, including memory management (I believe they said),but post-patch I have regular stuttering.

Just as bad, I now have aliasing artifacts and granulation that wasn't there before. I think they have purposely changed the TAA implementation to boost frame rates, or removed a softening filter, or... I don't know what. But visual quality has deteriorated.

Thank you for your response. Do you suggest changing any settings?

I've spent the past two days altering settings to fix both problems I've mentioned above. Nothing works. Apart from setting the display to 4K, with regards to improving image quality (to an extent), but my GPU can't handle 4K.

My settings are going to stay on how they were pre-patch, because frankly we shouldn't have to change anything that worked perfectly before. It's up to the developers to recognise what they've done and fix it.

100% agree with you. Mine ran nicely prior to the patch upgrade. Hopefully a fix in the next patch.

What I find more odd I've just booted my sim up and I've been asked to update again...

Since the patch and before, I have had solid smoothness and performance. It was all good until last night flying around the Orlando photogrammetry areas that the stuttering got really bad. Pause after pause second after second. I really think it’s the streaming from bigger down servers.

secondly, I noticed a marked improvement turning hyper threading on for my overclocked 8700k.

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

So you think it's more on the MS side?

I'm not technical enough to tamper with CPUs etc haha

Yes, I've always assumed stuttering is to do with the streaming -- but maybe it's on their server side.

A number of other folks have reported that closing background processes is really important for smooth performance of MSFS.  In particular, some antivirus suites seem to have a big impact.  Could you try closing all of the background programs and see if that helps?  Even just right clicking unneeded icons in your tray and selecting exit might help.

Great suggestion. I'll give that a try and leave you guys know.

I can just end task in task manager right?

Sorry if this sounds silly but very new to PC simulation.

Personally, though, I never have any other tasks running. Apart from my antivirus. But it worked with my antivirus running pre-patch, so again I'm hoping the developers fix what they've broken, if that's the case, rather than my having to disable antivirus. It'll be interesting to see if it does have an effect in the meantime, though...
