On another note here, I have learned in MFS to avoid preselecting anything with an autopilot in the GA aircraft, even in takeoffs into IFR weather. I may have traced that to some strange and uncontrollable behavior on takeoffs. Preselections such as target altitude and VS rate, or any selection that establishes ROL mode.
