September 28, 20205 yr Did a quick flight yesterday late afternoon from Gower 6WA2 to KSHN (and then headed SW towards Bowerman KHQM) I definitely had to watch the fog/clouds in the area to remain VFR Untitled by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Untitled1 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Untitled3 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Looking NE towards Seattle Untitled4 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr First I attempted to go over it Untitled5 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr But then I decided to go around it Untitled6 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr A very faint Ranier in the background Untitled7 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Still dodging clouds in the late afternoon light Untitled8 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr City of Shelton, WA - and again I'm changing my plan of attack - how to get into SHN? Untitled9 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr I decided to do some 360's in hopes the clouds would move away from the airport Untitled11 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr It didn't look good....I'd continue an Orbit. Down here in class G airspace I only need 1 mile of flight visibility and to remain clear of clouds Untitled12 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr I finally saw a gap, but I did not enter on a left downwind due to Wx Untitled13 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr I let the fog move on again, and departed southwest to HQM... September 29, 20205 yr Excellent shots Ryan - so what did they do the water ? why we going backwards 😞 Rich Sennett
September 29, 20205 yr Author Well the problem lies with real world weather. The surface winds are broken at least on my build. If you manually set a wind you'll get the amazing white caps and stuff. So in these shots the water is glass. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 29, 20205 yr Great stuff! Looks like some good clouds for practicing your over the top VFR rating (VFR OTT)! Edited September 29, 20205 yr by Doering Latest video at The Flight Level Flight Over Frozen Lake Erie - Between Ice and Clouds - Ultimate Solitude - The Perfect Memory
September 30, 20205 yr Author Yeah VFR over the top that's pretty rare thing in the US. I've done a lot of VFR on top clearances as a controller (not as a pilot yet). And I've done a lot of SVFR clearances as well. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 30, 20205 yr VFR on top usually requires climbing through a 'sucker hole' to on top then spend the rest of your fuel looking for another 'sucker hole' to let down. Been there, done that several times.
