Since it is a preset, then it should be immune to the current bug. And the "reroll" function allows you to ditch what is presented and reroll a new preset. So this might help.

You can load a weather preset, or set the weather manually using the weather editor. The problem with this is it sets a "universal" weather. It is very common for weather to be radically different from where I live and an hour flight in any direction, and this transition from one type of weather (say overcast) to another (say clear skies) is what makes live weather such an amazing experience to me personally. Now like I said in my previous post, if I can just turn lightning off via a cfg file, that would be great. I'd rather live with thunderclouds absent of lightning than clear skies full of lightning.

I like the fact that your can reroll the weather, and the fact that this will get new METAR every 3 minutes so you get dynamic weather. And since the free hobby token allows 4000 calls daily you'll never reach your limit even if you make a metar call every minute (default is 3 minutes between polls).

I probably should clarify what I mean about dynamic weather. If I'm flying in clear skies IRL to a region under cloud cover, I'll see those clouds on the horizon and they'll slowly "grow and fill" my view as I fly towards them. MFS does a very impressive job with this. What I don't want is to be flying in clear skies and then all of the sudden have clouds materialize in front of me, which I have to assume is the effect we get when manually setting the weather conditions, even if it's an app doing that setting. I'd much rather keep MFS's live weather and just turn off lightning. I've not given up hope that there's a setting somewhere to do this, or perhaps I could just delete (ie - move to a backup folder) the FX files for lightning.

The polling frequency occurs every 3 minutes. So I don't think you are going to have that problem. I have been flying around and have not noticed the behavior you are fearful of. Since it is a community mod, it's easy to pull out if you are unsatisfied with the results.

With unreal weather you have a java file that you can edit to your liking, settings like the transition speed beetween two metars, and guess what, lightning ON or OFF (even if the simple fact that using the mod already fixes the lightning issue)

Ahh, so this isn't the paid weather mod? I might be confusing it with the other one. If it's free and easy to install (and safe), I am willing to give it a try sometime.
October 14, 20205 yr I love how, whenever a bug is talked about, the default excuse from MSFS word not allowed is "Well, FSX/P3D/XP11 didn't have this...". Like, really? So because other sims didn't have something we shouldn't hold Asobo/MS accountable for the mess they've released?
October 14, 20205 yr Administrators @langly The word filter seems to activate on every post you make. Do you mind to follow the TOS, please? The bug has been reported, it has been acknowledged, and it is on their to be fixed list. Exactly what more do you expect to be done? The reason people are bringing up other sims, is because the lack of live weather has not made the other sims "unplayable" but buggy live weather in MSFS has created a "lightning storm" of rancor. If P3D, XP11 and FSX can be satisfactorily played with their default weather modelling or by the use of addon's, why can't MSFS be enjoyed the same way as a temporary workaround until fixed? It reeks of hypocrisy. There are a myriad of temporary work arounds one can avail themselves of waiting for the bug to be fixed.. One can use existing presets, customize the weather themselves, or use some of the third party payware or freeware methods readily available. There's even an addon linked to at in an earlier post in this thread which will go out to a METAR server and pick up METAR data and put it in the sim. The add on is easily configured, costs no money, and is easily installed. So why is that such an unacceptable temporary solution? Edited October 14, 20205 yr by wthomas33065
