Autopilot NAV or APPR mode?

It's no bother. Navigation is a subject in which you never stop learning, discovering and perfecting.

MSFS has it quirks. The good Navigator notes these and finds his way. . .

And i had confirmation that my problem, althought similar to Rockys one, is actually a limitation of the Working Title CJ4.

That's it exactly.

MSFS 2020 is a World. It looks a lot like our own World but it isn't. It's synthetic. That calls for the Navigator to exercise caution when applying real world practices to this virtual environment. It's bl**dy close and most things work similarly. VOR/ ADF/ WPT/ EIRAC, etc.

But, and it's a big but, we must allow for the failures (just as we do real world).

Navigation is one of my biggest passions - I sail and fly real world and just love this process of consulting maps, compasses, GPS, sextant, yard-stick, sewing needle on a piece of silk floating in a tea cup (rub it on your hair and it'll point North like a champ)

MSFS 2020 is pretty good and the mods we're seeing emerging from the ether of installation and patch woes are incredible.

Navigation in MSFS 2020 will outstrip anything that was present in previous sims in a few months time.

But in the mean time don't neglect your compass and stopwatch.

Guys,

I don't know what went wrong before but all the flights tonight went perfect and I used the NAV mode based on VOR1 each time (to test it). Sorry for bothering you all for a problem that I finally couldn't reproduce... It's the first time I am happy to be unable to reproduce a problem 🙂

Clearly it's no bother as this is why the forums exist and we participate.  But don't be so sure the problem won't happen again, because as mentioned, the fanning out of radials becomes even more exagerated the further you are from a VOR.  So if you are 40 miles away from a VOR and it looks centered, hitting the NAV button with CDI is going to make a hard turn depending how far off centerline you are,  The closer you are to the VOR, the less distance to the centerline.

Should it happen, let it ride.  It will eventually center and all will be well.  It's UGLY for sure, but no harm done.

Let's say I am flying heading 240 with the VOR1 needle centered on 240 and the TO indicator, it means I am flying to the VOR station on radial 240.

Negatory. In that case you’re on the 060-degree radial on a heading of 240 degrees TO the VOR. That misunderstanding may or may not be the basis of your problem. Remember, radials radiate out. To find what radial you are on, you need to center the needle with a FROM flag.

You're right, I was wrong in the description of my problem but not in the way I use the VOR. You're right, I was heading 60 to be on the 240 radial to fly TO the VOR.

Yeah, like I said, may or may not have made a difference, but thought I’d point it out.
