CTD out of nowhere v5

Featured Replies

Hi,

Since upgrading my VRAM to GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti I've not had any CTD issues as I've now got 12GB of VRAM.

However last night I started a KIAH to EGLL flight, headed to bed and woke up with the dreaded DXIG_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG CTD issue.

It happened somewhere over north USA mid-flight (so not even on approach). I loaded the autosave and within 10 seconds I get the same error. However if I load up the QW 787 (the aircraft I was flying) anywhere else it appears fine. Still loading the autosave gives the same problem.

The only difference with my setup before this flight is that I reinstalled the QW 787 as I was having issues with the HUD.

Any idea on what could have caused it and how I can avoid it happening again? I can't imagine midflight at FL420 much VRAM is being used!

Thanks,

Ben

This is more than likely a DX12 issue - did you try different Nvidia drivers and also remove Geforce experience bloatware

DXIG_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG doesn't mean that you have a lack of VRAM issue at all. It's one of those sim'isms that spread like wildfire created most likely in these forums. I've gotten them from time to time in v5 with over half of my vram still available.

Off topic but also a sim'ism it seems is FL420. RVSM ends at FL 410 and above that the next assignable altitude is FL430.

As the QW787 uses True Glass, there is a bug that causes this crash in V5.  Turn off Vsync in the P3D options and it should go away.  You can enable Vsync in the Nvidia driver panel if you need it

What I don't understand is that the only change I made to P3D was reinstalling QW 787...what difference would that have made?

It is not a QW issue, it is a True Glass issue and it effects all aircraft compatible with V5 that use it.  The Leonardo Maddog has the same issue and the Vsync workaround was posted on their forum.  It fixed that crash for me and many others.

I'm not a Maddog customer, can you tell me what the workaround was?

Although, I don't understand how it could be True Glass. I've used the QW 787 on P3D5 since May...why now, when I do a fresh install (now two!) is it an issue?

So, today I had my second CTD in two days.

About three hours into a EGLL to KEWR flight, cruising at FL400 over the north Atlantic and the dreaded DXIG_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. My GPU usage was only 3.2/10GB.

In the QW 787 with ActiveSky running. I also had AI Flow and AI Ground running.

I have disabled VSync in P3D already as well as Real Light in the 787 dispatcher app. I've reinstalled QW 787 twice.

Any ideas? At the moment it is totally spoiling any sim time as all long haul flights (which is what I do) are crashing half way through.

Again, another CTD flying KEWR to EGLL about an hour after departure at FL390. Please see attached photos.

Flying out of the DD KEWR in QW 787. I've reinstalled the QW 787 twice now and still no joy.

Any ideas as this has totally destroyed the hobby for me as I can not complete any flight 😞

Thanks,

Ben

Is anyone able to help? At the moment I can't do anything with the sim because of this...

Have you disabled TrueGlass?  Every time you reinstall the QW787 it most likely re-installs/reactivates it, and Trueglass has been identified by several developers as the prime culprit in causing DXGI crashes in P3Dv5.  I moved the trueglass.dll file to a "hold" folder, and haven't seen a DXGI issue since.  It seems like you're in denial that this could be causing your problem--IMHO it is the most likely explanation for your issue.

Thanks for the reply. How do I do this?
I disabled Real Light but not True Glass .
Just out of interest, what does it do?

Go into the main P3D "gauges" folder and rename trueglass.dll to trueglass.dll.OFF

Trueglass does rain/fog/ice effects on the windshield.
