Do they ever stop?

Ok, seems that they have covered more places in the actual trailer where water masks are already visible, great. Did you have time to check Tahiti? This was looking faboulous in the Oceania trailer but looks blunt on my end in the sim...

Stupid question @BiologicalNanobot: were you in the alpha testing team? If yes, it is not your memory playing tricks but the fact, that all watermasks were there in alpha (at least to some reports I read...). But they did not disappear with Patch 5 but rather with the release candidate...

Completely forgot about Tahiti, checking right now. And no, I wasn't in the alpha testing.

I just hope it is configurable, I understand, automatic water masks are probably glitchy in some places so they can't be globally enabled, but at least a configuration option or a trick to get the water masks back would be so nice.

@AnkH here's Tahiti, it looks like water masks are still non-existent there with some additional defects in orthophotos:

Good Evening All,

I can confirm that something did happen after Patch 5 with the water, at least in one spot I've seen so far.

I don't have any before and after pics, but for me...Faro Portugal.  Really from there to the Spanish border, so far....It is beautiful now!  Just like it appears in Bing Maps.

Before the patch, it was just plain water, no "features" underwater, but now it looks like it is in Bing...So hopefully, more places to come.

Best,

RBKJAN

Means it is, as it is: Fake advertisment. Some watermasks will be added, most of those in the vids are not (yet) there. Embarrassing...

Considering oceans cover roughly 70% of the planet, the lack of water features (coral, shipping, waves) is noticeable to me. Land? Love it. Water? Swing and a miss. My old FSX with shipping AI traffic, payware scenery and water textures (REX) were vastly better. I hope it’s just a case of early days for MSFS and will be eventually enhanced.

It's been out 2 and a half months. All in due time. Like you mentioned, 70% of the planet is water, adding the masks is a rather large project.
