  1. Is any MSFS ATC perfect? Hardly. But for the $30 I spent so far on BATC, it’s provided me with many hours of enjoyment even if some flights go awry. In-game (default) IFR was so bad, I gave up on it years ago. I was about to go back to FSX for commercial piloting. Yes, that bad. I guess we all have expectations of what traffic control should be and not everyone has the same experience. Hopefully that number of satisfying flights are increasing.
  2. I’m still waiting for Carenado to fix the C90. (Speed and fuel burn). I don’t want anymore products that can’t be fixed by the community.
  3. Hard to believe MS released the package they had a year ago. Software is their business (and their reputation) yet they still decided it was a good idea to send the buggy mess out the door. But I’m glad all the 2024 owners might be finally getting a decent product. When officially released, I’ll be reading the SU4 comments to see if it’s finally time to upgrade.
  4. So sounds are not just aliased to the Asobo 172?
  5. Very true. Before 2024 even hit the market, I knew it would be plagued with problems. And it was. So will the next thing. I can’t reward developers with that philosophy. So maybe FS2020 will be with me for a long while. It’s also disappointing that 25 year old FSX had things still not in MSFS… AI aircraft that flare. Helicopter AI (3rd party) 9 different offline voices Default ATC that wouldn’t fly you into a mountain Good GA traffic at small airports I could see an AI model beyond 1/2 mile (LOD) MSFS is graphically superior but there’s more to a sim than how pretty it is.
  6. It’s an annoying little bug that should have been fixed once announced. It’s no one’s fault but MS/Asobo that their customers think they are running a gong show. I can’t think of any other business who would treat their customers that way.
  7. I wasn’t able to find this announcement. So it is an Asobo issue? (Not a Game Services issue reported by others). I’m glad Asobo don’t build cars. Customer- “Hi. I brought my car in for an oil change yesterday and now the car won’t stop unless I disconnect the battery”. Asobo - “We’ll fix it next time you need an oil change.”
  8. Pitch authority is modelled a bit too well, imo. Despite aggressive trimming, I find it drops like a stone sooner than it should (with stock flight dynamics).
  9. I agree. I explained to Robert Young what the handling problems were (still are) and he provided tweaks that performed magic to the flight dynamics. I don’t know if he ever publicly released the revised configs. If he did, try them. Vastly improved and now a joy to hand fly.
  10. I don’t recall much (if any) complaints for P3D and FSX. It wasn’t complex.. no SIDs/STARS.. but we had traffic that moved on the ground properly, ten different voices, a program to customize AI phrases, aircraft that flared properly, ATC that kept the pilot on course and not into mountains, and even a 3rd party helicopter AI program that worked really well. We have really taken a step backwards when it comes to AI and ATC.
  11. Just curious… if you don’t like piloting long flights, why are you? Why not just create a 200nm flight? Climb, short cruise, back down.
  12. I always felt 2020 buildings are too ‘beefy’. I can really notice it in this video. But on the flip side, 2024 buildings seem lost in the background. Both are pretty good overall though.
  13. My choice (with FS2020) was the Robin DR400. I could trim it perfectly to make scenery gazing easy. And the visibility in turns is better with a low wing aircraft.
  14. I agree with this statement 100% but in the case of MSFS, it is hard to ignore the last 4 years. I did not buy 2024 because there was reasonable probability that it wouldn’t work as expected. But that doesn’t make it acceptable. It’s deplorable that Microsoft knew it had flaws and released it anyway. At least tell your audience the truth… that it’s a work in progress.
  15. The last few times I’ve updated my nVidia drivers, my graphic settings were automatically reset to low end. So unless it’s a critical update, I just don’t anymore. Thankfully, I’ve never lost a binding or had my pilot log reset.
  16. For every 1 person who says it works great, there seems to be 100 complaints. For all the problems 2020 had four years ago, it was never as bad as what I’m reading today. Yes, there have been other game titles with poor launches but with the massive audience MSFS has, it must sting for Microsoft. I do appreciate all the reviews and comments. I hope Asobo can get this turned around quick so buyers are not waiting years for a decent product. (Disclosure: I did not buy 2024 nor will I buy anytime soon.)
  17. No but I believe you. I’m just saying it wasn’t always like that. The first time I noticed was when MSFS was only a few months old. I paused it to have dinner… came back to unpause it and noticed the sun was going down. Someone on the official forum said it was due to using live traffic (whatever that meant).
  18. Unless it was changed in a recent SU, ESC never paused time. I’ll have to check that again. However, the other two drawbacks to ESC were… GPU stays very active Fuel consumption doesn’t stop. It only dramatically slows it (I did a test years ago and posted the results.) As a result, I got into the habit of forcing a full pause by… hitting ESC save flight to PC leave the save window open. Cancel to return to the flight. Other than a developer pause, this is the only way I know to fully stop time, fuel and gpu drain.
  19. It’s hit and miss for me. I often wonder if it’s taking a processing hit from the heavy ad placements. I visit the site less often these days because of the clunkiness of it. It’s unfortunate because the site has some terrific freeware work from many talented people and I’d visit frequently if it was a better experience.
  20. Not day 1 for me. I preordered 2020 and it took years to work out the bugs. I can’t go through that again so will sit back and read the reviews and comments. I’m expecting months to be stable and mostly ‘pretty good’ but in case it’s not, I’ll wait until it is.
  21. If MSFS2024 doesn’t have vastly improved ATC, it’ll be a slap to every simmer. It does not need to be at the same level as BATC or SI but it does need to address some of the current failings. Porting over the current mess, IMO, says “we just don’t care”.
  22. I gave this tool a try yesterday on a few flights. Works great. Much more consistent experience when flying from low detail areas to large cityscapes. Previously, I would notice some stuttering and FPS slowdowns while objects and traffic start taxing the processor. But it’s more fluid now. Thanks for offering this to the community!
  23. That is fantastic. Maybe I can watch the Marblehead to Halifax race inside the sim someday. MSFS is a gateway to new things (with the help of some creative people).
