Quitting for now

I have tried to be patient.  Alas...this platform in its current state is a mess.     I will come back when things are better.  If they ever do.  I am really dissapointed in this release.  Back to 2020.

I’ll continue to dabble in 2024 but the default aircraft have largely felt like toys, and like many others, the server issues I think are part of why the detail levels are inconsistent and bland for me. Last night I reverted to 2020 and it showed me that it’s going to be awhile before 2024 really gets its legs under it. I know (am hopeful) that eventually it is going to be really great but like most posting, I think it is a very below expectations release.

i really do believe it will get better but my sense is that will be measured in months not days or weeks.

enjoy whatever version you enjoy until then!

Furthermore, the state of generic AI is abysmal. I have AI entirely off because of this.

There is momentarily no substitution, so I leave it to some free roaming/test flights for now.

Dedicated flights with actual routes in FS2020 only for now.

As expected, it is going to take a good number of months for 2024 to settle down, to identify the deficiencies, and for them to begin to be corrected. There are a lot of questions and unknowns now. The best advice was to keep 2020 and give time to Asobo and the third-party developers to work things out. I am confident 2024 will settle down and many of the issues be worked out, but it is going to take time, and I think considerable time. I wonder if we did not all realize what a substantial change this platform was, particularly in regard to most of it being pulled into the cloud, and the implications for the way we interact with the sim.

I agree, for now I am using 2024 only to learn the interface, to figure out its strengths and limitations, and do some short exploratory flights.  There is a lot to learn and expecting it to do everything that 2020 did in exactly the same manner is clearly not reasonable given what we know.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I didn't pre-order, simply because I didn't see the point of it and planned to buy 2024 on launch day. But after reading and watching I'm waiting. MSFS 2020 runs perfectly for me and suits how I use a sim 100%. So I'm quitting with my plan to buy 2024 any time soon.

After reading all the comments since launch it's interesting how wide a net of user types the MSFS sims appeals to. There are many comments from pretty dedicated users (that were active in the forums with 2020) saying they were putting aside 2024 and then naming other game titles they are going to spend time in the next few weeks/months such as train sims, farm sims, other games. To me this was so interesting - I'm not interested in any other games - simply an obsessive flight simmer since MSFS version 2 in the 1980's.

Which got me thinking and wondering how typical is my usage of the sim. I only fly one aircraft - in 2020 it has been the DA62, learn it inside out, fly it daily and hopefully master it to fly instrument approaches, and maybe occasional short hops. The simulation of real world procedures using real world charts (Navigraph) in the twin is what interests me.

So my use for 2020 and eventually 2024 is to be a "budget" flight trainer sim, and designing an aviator, selecting preferred facial hair and sunglasses or even doing do walk arounds prior to being in the cockpit etc are not something that interests me. I can see I'm in the minority.

I hope Parallel42 or like 3rd party company works on a new UI product, similar to their Stripr and Flow offerings to allow me to skip all the skeuomorphism in the user interface allowing a more direct path to the cold and dark cockpit.

I feel a tiny bit sad, thinking will scenery developers from now on only release 2024 versions, as I expect I will be still using 2020 for at least a few more years. It's not that I dont want to move to 2024, it's that moving at the moment would be a massive downgrade to my current experience.

Fs2024 should have just been another sim update for 2020.  What a mess this all is.  Msfs2020 was absolutely groundbreaking when it released even with its share of issues.  Nothing even close to it had been done before so it was understandable that there were issues.  Fs2024 is just a buggy version of 2020 with a few tweaks and features added like seasons, and a few cloud and ground/flight model tweaks that 2020 should have gotten.

Well it seems that MS 2020, today is running terribly. Low FPS and Textures in the dumpster. I think I am going to quit flying MSFS if this continues.

Maybe that's how MSFS 2024 suddenly added server capacity.

Your statement that it is a mess is certainly your belief. You don't even state what is a mess?

Not sure what the point of your post is? Do you want sympathy?

Launch day was a mess but currently the product is far from a mess! It has issues but certainly is usable in it's present state.

Maybe for you it is, not here.... also I spent $200 expecting something totally different then what I got. Money grab does sound about right.

You disbelieve MS/Asobo who stated they can't achieve what they want in 2020?

Its not usable for plenty of people. A friend loaded into LHR and well it looked dreadful. A friend trying campaign not receiving credits. Only saw a popular streamer trying to get his PPL, ATC informed to land on the correct runway so they did but it did not even register they tried a second time told to go for other runway which legally wouldn't be allowed at the last minute told to go other runway and passed. List goes on.

Good grief, we are on day three, give them a chance!  I don't think I have a single Steam game that hasn't required many bug fixes at release.
