BATC Tactics for long-hauls.

Featured Replies

Hello,

Since BATC does not work in the accelerated mode, my plan is to exit BATC before I hit X8 acceleration on PMDG777 and fly until 100nm from TOD. Then, I exit the accelerated mode, reload BATC, and hope it picks me where I am and lead to the arriving airport as usual.

Is that correct method?

I normally just leave BATC running (with basic voices so I don’t eat up my credits).  When I’m near TOD, if I’m not tuned to the right ATC, I open the default MSFS ATC screen, select the ATC frequency it wants me to change to (which will also tune BATC), announce I’m on frequency, and carry on.

Just curious… if you don’t like piloting long flights, why are you? Why not just create a 200nm flight?
Climb, short cruise, back down.

What do you think why every sim since FS9 has time compression. It is exactly for that reason. Flying from Boston to NY with a 777 is quite unrealistic. Flight planning of long haul flights is different too.

I fly it real-time often (just not at the right hours because of my time zone) - it's just a time management/lifestyle thing.

I don't disagree with you - extremely valid point, but post-COVID opened up a lot of options for sim flying for me, at least, and I would presume a large number of other people too now that we no longer fly desks at the office.

It is, and exactly because of this, I am not going to fly 8h+ flights real time. Why should I? It is a simulator in the end and because of this, time acceleration is exactly what I use. Pulling off a 10h flight in just 3h sim time is also some kind of satisfying to me and honestly, those 8h cruising time are boring like hell anyway 😉

Yep that‘s the way to go and doing this you will have the correct/realistic traffic on arrival

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Try to do them in VR and then we can talk...

I worked from home during covid and did just that while using vatsim

i remember calling a pilot out from standby for a very delayed KATL from my spare room while having a very busy vatsim London centre on in my speakers putting people in the Lambourne hold, needless to say the said pilot was so confused when he could hear it In the background.

there’s numerous stories of us guys in ops/crewing calling people out while shouting at the kids/dog in the background ,  I know I definitely did

What, 8h real time? Not going to happen, no VR anyway here. And why only then we can talk?

Simply because, as you said, flying 8+ hours is crazy, but suppose you do with a VR device placed on top of your head, is even more crazy... 😁

Just mix a bottle of Savignoc Blanc with Pellegrino in 1/3 proportion and you'll be fine for next 8 hours.

If you are doing an 8 hour flight with time compression that then takes you 2 hours, you are really doing a 2 hour flight pretending it is 8  hours.
