Why does FSX refreshes so much???

Featured Replies

Hello Gang!I have noticed that FSX, every once in a while, does some sort of an update/refresh that needless to say, is pretty darn annoying. Sometimes I'm in final approach, concentrating, really focused, and all of a sudden, BAAAMMMM, black screen comes up with the progress bar refreshing/uploading something. FSX does not crash, it just interrupts whatever you're doing and continues once it's finished doing it's thing. Is there any way to get around this? Thanks for any help!Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert

Ram? I have 2GIG, and FSX does not do that on my machine. Far and few between, FSX might pause for a couple of seconds to load additional scenery, but thats it. Yet, I've never had a black screen.L.Adamson

Are you running FSRealTime? If so, and it's set to autoupdate, then that will cause the refresh.

Happends to me too. The progress bar doesn't load scenery i think. Looks like it's traffic. Maybe it's them cars when you go from ants to more detailed cars, that makes sense, since we often see thin on approach.I'll try w/o car-traffic next time I fly ...Eagle

Hi Eagle!Yes! That's it! I do not have FSRealTime or anything like that - just Active Sky for FSX. Bu the problem you describe is exactly what i am experiencing. I have 2GB of RAM by the way, so RAM is not the issue.Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert

First enter complaint here-............Answer-DX10 and Visa will greatly improve it.End of generic response........

I've only had that happening to me in missions, so I thought it was beacuse of some mission-specific scenery being activated.I have 2GB of RAM too.Cheers,Pietro.

>First enter complaint here-............>Answer->>DX10 and Visa will greatly improve it.>>End of generic response........So "Visa" is the generic solution to any problem. Well, you're probably right ;-).Eagle

I had the same problem and reported it to tell_fs. The response (from Mike Gilbert (GAMES)) was: "Are you by chance changing the sim rate? AI traffic is regenerated each time you go above 4x sim rate and then back."I replied that I wasn't changing the sim rate, and received the reassuring(?) response: "Weird. Well, I can ask around here to see if it can be explained and perhaps an article posted to http://fsinsider.com."The reload often occurred within 5 minutes after starting a flight plan, but it has occasionally also occurred some way into a flight. It once happened on the approach after a flight of almost an hour and a half. There didn't seem to be any pattern that I couldsee. It didn't happen on every flight, and I don't think it ever happened more than twice in a flight. It's only happened once in the last couple of weeks, but this may be because I haven't had as much time as usual for simming during that period. I hope someone can find a solution.Dugald

Is it the Weather being downloaded?Check your Weather Rate slider; should be in the middle. In the FSX controls keyboard assignments list there is a parameter called 'Refresh Scenery'. Is it assigned to a key?If it is then you might be hitting that key. What are your computer specs?

I have these pauses as well, but then mine is a low-mid range rig so it's somewhat reassuring to see those with 2GB RAM are suffering.I normally run Activesky and though that was causing the pauses but I can watch AS do a weather update on my second PC and no pauses on FSX at that point or within a short time of the weather update.I tried the 'Clear skies' weather theme and although the pause were less than with AS they were still occurring.Pete Dowson mentioned these pauses in his forum and he seems to think they happen when FSX redraws the weather. In FS9 weather would tend to be drawn in a split second whereas FSX draws it gradually. As Dennis says it is a PITA when it happens on finals and because it is unpredictable it makes flying with VATSIM virtually impossible. If it is a bug I hope the ACES team can replicate it and offer a solution.

MasterCard and American Express also work. - Doug

I've only seen it happen to me during the Time Acceleration change from above 4x to back down below.
