Ii is not as far as the so-called Freedom of Panorama is concerned. Copyright is less stringent in the US than in France for instance or Italy .

The copyright in an architectural work that has been constructed does not include the right to prevent the making, distributing, or public display of pictures, paintings, photographs, or other pictorial representations of the work, if the building in which the work is embodied is located in or ordinarily visible from a public place.

You found the perfect exact words: this is double edged sword. I also liked your words about "melted chocolate houses" and "monolith trees", absolutely exact 🙂

If you want to test what I saw at Kissimmee, I was lining up on runway 33, not at the beginning of the runway. Thanks - I will try it and compare notes.

...I flew above Paris with all detailed buildings and it is absolutely wonderful. Sometimes an auto-generated building is positioned on the middle of a road, but globally it works well and the visuals are stunning. I may share some screenshots of Paris if you wish.

Of course, please do Eric!  I never give up the opportunity of a good screenshot where it is relevant to the conversation! 😁

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Generally yes, but you can run afoul of trademark law with buildings. If you considering a career in selling photographs of iconic buildings or monuments such as empire state building or the golden gate bridge, get a property release.

I tried to find Disney World a while back, and there was a blank space where I thought some of the iconic buildings might be.

Photogrammetry is indeed a double edged sword because not all Photogrammetry is equal.  In some regions it's very very good.  In some regions, not so much.  It also appears to have a much closer draw distance than AI scenery.

Fly in the Orlando area with Photogrammetry on and note where the buildings seem to end and the scenery flattens.  Now turn of Photogrammetry and look at the difference.  The draw distance is almost double.

Also, at night Photogrammetric areas have the really unconvincing night lighting mesh over skyscrapers that just looks bad.

So you have to kind of set it based on your preference.

1.  If you are sightseeing and want to see recognizable objects (although not perfectly rendered ones), then by all means turn it on.

2.  If you are simply flying and want a uniform look and feel between all areas turn it off.

Most of the time I leave it off and the biggest downside to that is it changes the skyline of most cities.  Turn off Photogrammetry in NYC and the Empire State Building literally disappears and a much shorter building with an entirely different shape is in it's place.   I would be more willing to leave PG off if the autogen at least got the building heights correct.  But alas,
