P3D with EA on is a broken sim

Recommended Posts

In my case, with the use of ASP3D, P3D V5.1 and Cloud Res to medium, I get "almost" no waffle-clouds....Sometimes, but rare, I get them. And the "waffle-effect" is only been seen from almost straight above the cloud layer in mostly only overcast condition.

I do also want to get rid of them, as they are ugly, yes. And when they show up, they show up in mostly huge patterns with very similar looking cloudscape.

Since we are getting waffle clouds in 5.1.  Are we gonna get pancake clouds in 5.1HF1 😆🤪😜 or even some other breakfast item as it could help in better placement of clouds.  I really think funnel cake structure will do the trick.  Nature provide tricks n' tips and in this case breakfast/fun foods

Right now we are getting "Cloudy chances of waffles" get it!!!

Hi Gerard,

Those nice results you’re getting, is that still as a result of your tweaks, or do you think it’s both a combination of the weather engine plus your tweaks? I’d like my sim to look similar 😎

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Imho an external weather engine, being it FSGRW, REX or AS shows more diversity and therefore cloudgrid will show less.

My tweaks sharpens the clouds, especially the cumulonimbus and cumulus and makes  the grid a little less apparent too.

With default weather themes I see that too in EA mode.

With FSGRW I only see a small grey ribbon when I enter the clouds OC from below for half a second.

HF1 should fix that....

HF1 is taking way too long and I am hoping that EA in HF1 consumes less VRAM

I am really wondering where the high VRAM usage is coming from, as I have a very low VRAM usage.

All sliders to the right, except AG (both very dense ) and texture resolution 2048zOn my 2x 4K I see max 7 Gb ...

The only thing I can think of is the VC as I use  Prosim ( 737 VC without instruments ).

Perhaps Rob or Simbol can chime in on this ....

I have lower settings compared to you Gerard. Most sliders on notch from the right. No dyn. Reflections at this moment. No building and SimObjects shadows. Within FSLabs and sparse to dense areas I get mostly between 8 and 9.5 gb. VRAM. AG at medium. LOD at high.

1 4k Monitor with small P3D windowed mode and vr off or on does not make huge difference.

Then a VC with instruments might be consuming a lot of VRAM.

Thanks for posting Marcus

With EA on - install FSDT/Flightbeam addons with 4096 textures set on prepar3d.cfg

and then change prepar3d.cfg max texture to 1024 for even better vram.  In some areas VRAM goes up for example with Flytampa's KLAS.  I am using my tweaks for lod 3.5, Texture_size_exp set to 10.  With high autogen draw and very dense trees and dense autogen buildings etc.

VC will be 4096 - there is another setting for that inside prepar3d.cfg (that is set on as default anyway...no need to change that).

EA Texture sizing can take VRAM so it all depends on what you have it set.  I have it set to min, but I am also on 4K monitors

Sad thing is I just bought 2070 Super on day of release last year and with P3d updates, who knows 3090 might get out dated by the time next update comes.  I truly hope LM can do proper management.  It is the legacy stuff which causing this bloat.  Let legacy code burn...but I am digressing this post, gonna stop now (have tons of profanity to shout at times on some of things with p3d lol).

Hello Gerard,

first of all, thank you for your suggestions to improve the EA experience within this thread. I'll try all of the during the next days. I've always been an active sky user, do you think it's worth it to change to FSGRW for better EA support?

best regards, Mathias

Buying another WX program is a waste of money right now when the hot fix isn't out and ASP3D is still on a release candidate. Just wait and see what happens. Plus, depending on the add-ons you use and their WX radars, they are likely not compatible with FSGRW.

Just stay with AS. Any weather engine working with v5.1 will do.
