November 22, 200619 yr Author Prove what? That Core 2 Duo is the fastest CPU out there, period?I don't need to. Go to ANY hardware website and look at the benchmarks for yourself. Very few of those benchmarks make ANY use of dual core technology. Therefore it's pretty much a level playing field for either a single core or dual core CPU. What don't you understand? As for the rest, other than inviting you round to my house and seeing for yourself, I'm not sure what more I can do! November 22, 200619 yr Well, CONGRATULATIONS on the baby girl!!!! My daughter Olivia is 1 1/2 how cute they are. I already bought shotgun to keep the boyfriends away! :-lolYeah, after Tuesday, get used to flying Cargo...at least they have night schedules because you will be up!
November 22, 200619 yr Author Gary,I think XP does recognise 3GB, but you won't get the benefits of dual channel will you? Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 22, 200619 yr Yup, 3GB is the XP maximum recognizable but at that point with overhead its pretty worthless. But if you do, make sure that you place the command in the boot.ini so that XP will recognize it, because it won't be default.I shudder to think how many here are running 4GB in XP and are only using 2GB when 4GB is not even accessible in the XP memory space!
November 22, 200619 yr Author Mike,Thanks again. This will be no.2 for us. Emma is now 18 months old and we were just used to getting our sleep again! Back to square one......I know what you mean about the shotgun though!!FSX was supposed to be my 'pre-new baby toy' but it's tunred into 75% frustration.I love most of the new features but the performance and bugs are just horrendous.I won't even start on the FS98 style Canadian and (some) European coastline and water data........Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 22, 200619 yr I was thinking 2 x 512M matched pairs to go with my other 2 x 1G matched (and exact same spec) pairs. I'll still get dual channel won't I?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 22, 200619 yr Author You're right....that will still get dual channel.Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 22, 200619 yr Mike,I understand the worthlessness of adding it now in terms of performance, but the last couple of computers I've had that I've bumped up the memory a couple of years later has generally resulted in having to run lower memory speed due to the memory stick specs not being the same. From what I read of Vista, the OS will quite happily wallow in 1G of RAM itself, which should the vista/dual-core;-) patched FSX + a few addons with 2G to wallow around in itself. Does this sound at least like a semi-plan?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

November 22, 200619 yr LOL! Actually I've been wallowing around all day waiting for my Thanksgiving turkey tomorrow :-lolYeah, if you're gonna go to Vista, I'd go with 4GB. I've just bought another 2GB of Corsair XMS Pro TwinX...I highly recommend it since they come perfectly matched for dualchannel and there is no chance of one being a little out of sync with the other. But yes, my friend, I think you have at the very least a "sem-plan"!
November 22, 200619 yr >Yes, because he does not have the +2GB momory tweak for>WinXP. 4GB of memory in XP is a waste of moneyMike ? you lost me on this one??Which tweak are you refering too.Peter
November 22, 200619 yr Mike, I PM'd you hear in the forums with my info that you wanted...not sure if you got it.Sorry to hijack...:-) Jeff D. November 22, 200619 yr PeterWindows XP by default does not recognize more than 2GB of RAM. And it doesn't recognize more than 3GB of RAM. To anable the 3GB recognition you have to edit the boot.ini file. Unless you've done this, you can have 100GB installed on your MB and Windows will only recognize 2GB of it, 3GB max.
November 22, 200619 yr :-( Nah I didn't get it...try again and I will also PM you my private email info....Thanks!Mike T.
November 22, 200619 yr AllJust wanted to say thank you and Happy Thankgiving to all of my American friends from a Canadian in Toronto. The discussion in this thread has been really helpful ,but seems as though everyone has a story on FSX.. i dont think the final frame rate chapter has been written as of yet.I bet it is a long way off, Ill look forward to any news on this from ACES after the break!Peter
