flight controls for X-Plane 11?

Featured Replies

I just bought and installed X-Plane 11 and found (of course) that flying using the mouse and keys is not much fun or very realistic. So it's time to get some flight controls. I'm a GA pilot and will mostly be flying GA planes in the sim, so a control wheel would be better than a stick. If it matters, I'll be using a Win 10 computer with 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

- I've read a bunch of reviews and sim pilots seem to rave over the Honeycomb Alpha Flight Yoke and Switch Panel. What do you think?

- Are there any good and also inexpensive rudder pedals available?

All comments appreciated.

Hello Mwr. Welcome to the X Plane family. I have CH controls for my sim.

the gripe i have about the pedals is they were made with weak springs for yaw, and brakes.Even though they have the plain Jane look, they are pretty durable.MY gear is out of warranty, and i did some alterations to the pedals. Not perfect but works. You will have some very good times with X Plane. After what i'm seeing out there X Plane is the way to go.It may lack things that other sims may have, but in the long run the only way to go. HAPPY FLYING!!!!!!!!!

I used CH products from the early 1990s until around 2009.  I then sold my CH yoke and purchased a Saitek Pro Cessna yoke. Loved it for 10 years.  Then along came the Honeycomb Alpha.  My wife ordered it for me for last Christmas.  It did not arrive until mid-January this year (2020).  I am 100% appreciative of the design, quality, fit and finish, and level of control.  No way I would recommend any other yoke.  The value is great, and it is not a heavy, squarish, sharp edged, less refined product.  I have logged now over 300 hours using it in FSX Gold, FSX SE, and MSFS 2020. It just fits in and works.

+1 Honeycomb Alpha

I could get the Honeycomb Alpha and pedals and all if I wanted, but I find my current controls with the Thrustmaster T16000M and TWCS throttle already does a great job in flight sim.

Can you even find a Honeycomb right now?

Good point Ryan.Big backlog as we know it.I have my eye on the same hardware, and might have to wait until next spring.I'm waiting for more consumer reports before i decide to buy.
