Southend (EGMC)

Featured Replies

I've not tried this before, but this is a cut and paste from a post I did over on the Orbx forum. I think it's about to get removed from there due to too many non-Orbx shots, so I thought I'd try this as a quick way to post it here instead. I think I'll probably just post here now anyway, I get fed up trying to remember whose scenery I'm flying over and whether it's ok to post there, especially as MSFS has really removed the urge for me to concentrate on flying over specific scenery products.

Just under the port wing tip here is a place that used to be called Churchill Gardens. A tiny little sunken garden hidden away just off the main street in to town. Much loved by all the hippies back in the late 60s - very much a LOTR sort of place. You may think I ingested a certain amount of psychedelics down there, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Nice shot of the Pier and its playground. Used to be a bowling alley on the pier in my day. Got burned out in one of the many fires that have hit the pier over the years

20 minutes further on to EGLC. Was going to head for there but got a CTD instead. Oh well,

When MSFS works well, it really does work well as a VFR platform - great shots and nice bit of personal history regarding the locations.

Nice collection of shots. Nothing beats getting the grand tour from a local.

Nice one Mark! I remember that well, horrifying to think it's not far off 40 years old. Don't really see how that can be, as I'm only actually 14 years old myself. I think.

Cheers John. I have fond memories of the place and time (along with some not so fond - but I guess that's normal), but by all accounts it's gone way beyond run down now. I never did understand why the place has never become yuppified and tarted up (not that that's entirely a good thing anyway) as it's only half an hour out from the City and Docklands.

Thanks Pmplayer. The free scenery is not bad if you don't get too close (photogrammetry effect), but I'd pay serious money for a properly modelled environment of the whole area. Preferably as it was in around 1967. Not expecting much, am I?

Excellent tour, Andy. Thanks for taking us along !

Same here 😉

Photogrammetry...oh well. I tried the other day to approach a photogrammetry modeled coastal town by boat, very bad idea

I would have liked to have seen that long pier modelled in 3D in ORBx TrueEarth GB South (P3D)....

Most definitely! A major oversight, not including it.
