Third Re-install Can I Get Some Help Please

Featured Replies

I knew this day would come.  I had the sim working perfectly.  I kept reading where many people where having problems with this and that.  But my setup was working perfectly.  Well yesterday was the day.  I removed all of the mod folders from the community folder and proceeded to update the sim.  Now, whenever the progression line gets to the end on the "New Activities" page the sim freezes.  I'm on my third uninstall and reinstall.  Does anyone have any idea as to why I cannot get the sim to reinstall??  My own personal opinion is they need to make these updates OPTIONAL!!!  So frustrated as it was working well for me.

How did you know the sim was frozen? It could've just been doing its thing until you decided to uninstall thinking it was frozen

After about 20 minutes I gave up.  How much longer should I have waited???

Well that is a long time. I've had instances when I'm about to kill the game and then it starts moving again but nowhere near 20 minutes

Do you have any pending Windows updates? If so I would install those first.

My first suggestion, with your next re-install (painful I know)

1. Go to "start" button (bottom left of your screen) scroll to MSFS, and uninstall. I do not know where you are trying to install to, but check that drive and ensure it is ALL gone.

2. If possible, when re-installing, do so to a separate drive ie Drive D,  This will need to be a fairly sizeable drive as I can see this thing (MSFS) getting HUGE in the long term.

3. Remove/copy/paste your complete Community folder to another drive. Re-paste it to the drive you installed MSFS on after the install. Please note that the install creates a folder called      Community, but it will have nothing in it,

4. After install, reboot.

5. Load MSFS after re-boot and go to Profile/Content Manager and update there as required.

This all depends on the fact you you purchased through the Market Place (I have no experience with MSFS and Steam but there are threads in this forum which will detail the procedures required for that re-install)

This, in my opinion should be the way to go for all re-installs, and, please forgive me if I sound condescending, after you have done this numerous times without problems,  In essence, I think the only difference from your procedure may well be that you only remove/copy/paste your Mods.  In my opinion, you are better off temporarily removing the entire Community folder.

I hope this helps you and ensures a Merry Christmas.

A few things to consider.

1. a shutdown in Win10 actually hibernates by default and keeps any glitches always restart (or disable the fast start option in settings)

2. 20 minutes is probably not long enough, it is 99% likely it has crashed but there is the odd situation with Win10 where things can be stuck for hours then come good

3. After uninstalling delete or rename/move any folders related to the game

4, if you have other software connected to the gam from people like Orbx or FSDT or even FSUCIP uninstall all of them

5. disconnect ALL hardware, all USB devices not just your FS related gear

6. double check you have the latest drivers for everything

Yes, and that is the opposite as to how Win 7 behaved. Shutdown won't hurt anything, but it won't help either. Restart forces Windows to try and cure itself.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.  I've done much of what has been suggested.  Now waiting to see if the reinstall works.  Been a little slow, so we'll see.
