Interesting Live weather observation

The icing effect is agressive and overdone. Sometimes nothing is the way to go. Until Osobo addresses this issue, which I doubt is very high on their list, JayDee has made a "No Windshield Icing Mooney Ovation" mod. It's on the FlightSim.To website.

I prefer icing than none, each to they own, but thanks for the thought.

Thanks for the heads up, I’m going to give it a try.  I’ve had a few flights disrupted by having my entire windshield instantly covered in ice from simply grazing a cloud.

go here meteoblue snow depth

MS sim snow accumulation will only begin at .75

I've had snow show up in places where it's only .25 to .30 (according to meteoblue at least) that's the lowest I've seen snow show up.

It's not consistent. One place in Canada it was .30 had snow, another place where it said .30 didn't have snow.

Rumor has it that Alaska and the Rocky Mountains have lots of snow coverage.

it's not a rumour. Also quite a few places in Canada have snow too.

I think this is a conflict between the measured snow accumulation and the weather model. For example, snow accumulation data may be loading properly but not rendering because the temperature for the weather model is above freezing (or any combination of meteorological factors that make snow impossible).

Oh hey, there's finally snow in my home town (CYZX), almost a week after the storm

However, Meteoblue map itself is saying there is no snow (above 0.02m at least, their minimum reporting depth). There is snow outside, I haven't measured it, but from eyeballing it it looks like almost an inch.

But another airport about an hour away (driving time) which Meteoblue does say has snow, has none at all. The actual weather is still accurate though.

It's 1c here and it's showing snow in the sim. There's also rain mixed with snow, which it is actually doing outside right now in real life.

I assume you confirmed visually.  Did you compare the Unreal weather and metars to ATIS/AWOS?  (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Being at an airport and looking out the window yes. Used Mark II eyeballs which are calibrated at 20/20 - 20/15 according to last flight medical. Compared the Unreal Weather to the real world METAR's, which are also conveniently the ATIS.

The terminal weather was basically spot on. The transitions were great as well, which was rather surprising and this thing is free add on!

Interesting posts so far, as I tried to indicate in my first post, seems like the live weather is working ok as far as current conditions in and around the airports, but things like snow accumulations seems off.  As I read about today's update, they mention that snow accumulations would be fixed.  D/L'd the update, ran the sim, spawned at KRFD and instead of partial light snow on the ground, today, nothing but green grass and green trees.  Hmmm.. maybe I don't understand what "fixed" means.  We still have 3-4 inches of snow cover everywhere.

Go take a look at their list of 'fixed' bugs and you will see their definition. Highly suggest you go d/l Unreal Weather and run it (for free!). Has been fantastic to correlated WX to METARS et al.

Those notes were not for today's update but the one in December.

Only thing updated today was the AIRIAC cycle.

I guess until it's ever fixed, I think I will try the Unreal weather.  In general, I feel like this is FSX again, I spent countless hours and a ton of cash to get that version to work well, only to be foiled by the OOM error.  I went with this newest version because of the 64 bit platform, here I am again with addons and mods only to have somethings work and others not or CTD's.  I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The snow cover data on meteoblue today shows 'no data'.  I assume their server has an issue, thus this date will not be pulled via MSFS and therefore not show today.
