December 9, 200619 yr I agree. For me autogen is the best thing since sliced bread. In my experience you don't need autogen above one or two thousand feet. But I rarely fly that high. I'm a bush pilot at heart and I love to see the Earth from low level. For this autogen is absolutely essential. To see a line of trees on the skyline brings the terrain to life. I also think many of the autogen building models are pretty good and are far better than in FS9.There is an autogen demo for the England & Wales VFR scenery (Horizon Simulations). It covers a large part of Snowdonia. The combination of the high resolution textures and autogen is stunning. Best regards, Chris
December 9, 200619 yr I've been using the England & Wales VFR scenery (1 meter photo-real) and it is fantastic. There is also an autogen demo for the Snowdonia region. The buildings match the textures almost perfectly and overall the autogen looks amazing. At thousands of feet you probably won't see the autogen and the textures really are all you need. But at a few hundred feet (where I do most of my flying) I noticed an odd effect. In some ways the high resolution textures will look odd, much as if all the buildings had been flattened by a huge steamroller. In this case the autogen hides this strangeness, particularly as the buildings accurately fit the textures. It's difficult to describe the effect of this combination of autogen and high resolution textures. Let's just say this has been by far my most amazing flight sim experience. Horizon say their autogen will have good frame rates and the demo certainly supports this. The downside is that all the rest of the country seems lacking without autogen. However, Horizon will be releasing a full autogen package for the whole country around Easter. I will be checking to ensure they have correctly added my own house (and the large tree)!Yes, trees are accurately placed on the images of real trees just as buildings are placed on the images of buildings. Hopefully they have developed software to automate this process, as there are an awful lot of trees and buildings!I regard autogen as one of the most important FS developments as it helps to bring the world to life.Best regards, Chris
December 9, 200619 yr >"possible DX9 patch" is wrong. We are working on and will>ship a DX9 SP.>>I am sorry you are so disappointed in the product. I dont>believe I made a confession, I see it as more of an>explanation. But you are free to read that as you may, :-).>>As far as how we do business, thats way above my pay grade. I>worry about how to build product, not the business side. >>Hopefully moving forward we can win you back to the>franchise!>>PhilIts what you don't say that fits between the lines that counts, most of us are intelligent human beings here.Having said that I would never blame the people at the coal face, they are doing the best they can with what they are given and get flak from both sides.I think the complaining has gone far enough, the issues are clear and you have stated you are producing a dx9 sp which can only be a good thing so thanks for your efforts. I for one (and I only speak for myself) have been forced back to fs9 which cannot be a good thing, I will try fsx again when the sp is released.thanks for your input and thanks for listening
December 9, 200619 yr Here are a few screenshots showing the combination of the VFR Snowdonia scenery and the autogen demo. These are all low level shots. I think the trees are a bit too dark but there should be significant improvements with the autogen when it is released next year. Of course static screenshots cannot do justice to the real thing, but they do show how well the autogen objects can match the textures. Flying this scenery is quite amazing and the frame rates are excellent. It really shows how autogen can bring a 'flat' world to life.Best regards, Chrishttp://www.kline.demon.co.uk/VFR4.jpghttp://www.kline.demon.co.uk/VFR5.jpgWith and without. Each tree has been planted at the location of a real-world tree. December 9, 200619 yr >hi everyone.have recently made the leap from fs 9 to fs x.i>must say,at the moment im a bit dissapointed.before everyone>thinks this is another fps moan or ctd moan,it isnt!>i have had no issues with bad frame rates or random>crashes.mine is more dissapointment of what the sim actually>'feels' like.>ive been trying to put into words what i think and the nearest>thing i can think of is that it feels too cartoony.>everything looks to bright and false.(imho)>i have been really enjoying playing fs9(with ut,ge pro, active>weather,fe etc.>everyting just looks and feels sooo wright.>>certainly dont want to sound like im trashing the game,im>not.i just hope for something better.maybe vista and the>lovely new dx10 card im getting soon will change my mind.....i>hope so>>richardActually this is the first ever version where I've gone back to the preceeding version and flown it more. With UT at night especially the commercial flying with 80% AI, real weather ActiveSky 4.5, etc. PMDG 747 and smmoooth flight, makes it a no-brainer to stick with FS9 for commercial flying. Bush flying, or heli flying in small areas where I can bump up the settings in FSX is what I use FSX for.
December 9, 200619 yr I think Len has got the right idea. For now, it is a two-sim experience. Use FS9 for heavy-iron and heavy add-on flying, and FSX for VFR, scenic flights, and for the special features, like the shared cockpit, etc. Plus, it still doesn't work with my Matrox set-up, and once you've had a taste of that, it's almost impossible to go back.http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
