December 8, 200619 yr Just read the blog's by ACES members. They don't say they made a big mistake though. They more or less say that they are sorry that there are people that expected more from them.
December 8, 200619 yr >Maybe it won't be long before we have a 1 metre terrain mesh>for selected areas, which will eliminate the need for autogen>altogether. That's your opinion, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I have to say that I can't see myself flying without autogen even with 1 millimeter terrain mesh. IMO there HAS to be a balance between texture, objects and details, if not I'm not getting vital parts of the flying experience I want.
December 8, 200619 yr >FSX just doesn't get my load time on my PC, FS9 works better and looks better.>Another generalized statement. All depends on the PC, and when and where; as in many cases, FSX looks far better with it's much greater resolution textures, than FS9 could ever be capable of.In fact, on my PC, FSX gets the majority of time, based on looks, it's fluid smoothness, and improved feel of airmass.L.Adamson
December 8, 200619 yr I agree that those shots are very pretty from such altitude, but how about from, or near, the ground. Here's a couple of autgen on / off shots from around Seattle:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162717.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162718.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162719.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162720.jpgIMO, FS anything looks seriously ugly and bland without autogen at low level.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
December 8, 200619 yr I agree. That is why I imagine a performance "fix" which puts autogen on when on the ground and close to it-but only in a narrow band around your aircraft (since you are on the ground or low you can't see that far-less objects-more performance). As you gain altitude it fades out-and then one sees the high res textures in their glory, and the cartoony look at altitude with autogen on is now gone.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 8, 200619 yr I think that is an excellent idea Geofa. I hope ACES is reading this.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
December 8, 200619 yr I just read something from the NMegascenery people that their next offereing for FSX, what they're currently working on, will be 1 meter scenery!! That should do it, if we can run it.http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
December 8, 200619 yr "possible DX9 patch" is wrong. We are working on and will ship a DX9 SP.I am sorry you are so disappointed in the product. I dont believe I made a confession, I see it as more of an explanation. But you are free to read that as you may, :-).As far as how we do business, thats way above my pay grade. I worry about how to build product, not the business side. Hopefully moving forward we can win you back to the franchise!Phil ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.
December 8, 200619 yr Unfortunately, thats a behavior change and new engineering and would require new testing beyond the existing test pass we will be re-running against the product with the SP bits. Thats really out of scope for the SP, where we are tuning the existing behavior.Good idea, but not one we can commit to.Phil ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.
December 8, 200619 yr Hi, No I don't think it's only you as I look at this as " SIM CITY" when you turn on the auto gen. With it off I get pretty good FPS and real pictures.this is IMHO onlyTONY
December 8, 200619 yr I can't understand why folks are comparing high resolution flat photo-imagry to 3d object autogen.Comparing apples to oranges. No matter how high the res is, the world will still look flat and unnatural when you're sitting on the ground.
December 8, 200619 yr Wow Phil, you have discipline. Part of why I never will make it in marketing. I don't know how to be so polite when faced with such writing.
December 8, 200619 yr I think it is because at this point most users have to make a choice of either apples or oranges-when most would like to have a combination. The high res photo textures look stunning from altitude-the autogen looks great when low down. Turning on autogen however will blurr and obscure the photo textures from altitude so they can't be seen, ensures that performance for most will be poor, and gives the "sim city look" as someone else put it in this thread. Turning autogen off ensures while on/near the ground there will be a look that is bland and lifeless.I'd like to have both apples and oranges, but at the present make the choice of oranges instead of apples as I like smooth responsive flight, and great looks from altitude where I sim the majority of my time. It would be great to be able to have a combination both-transition to autogen on while near the ground and transition to off when a certain altitude to allow the photo textures to emerge...right now I think it is the apple/orange choice which is the ultimate frustration for simmers.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
