Refresh rates / stutters etc.

You should find the user manual which contains all the supported refesh rates. The better monitors will support 30Hz which makes things simpler.

I saw this beauty: ViewSonic VX2458-MHD. In the manual says this:

Input Signal       Video Sync        HDMI (v1.4); TMDS; Fh = 15 ~ 180KHz ; Fv = 23~ 144Hz; TBD MHz

Looks like what I was searching for. Am I understanding correctly?

Luis,

Partially. You need to read the user manual in which it lists the resolutions and supported frequencies.

ResolutionRecommended 1920 x 1080@144Hz

Supported

1920 x 1080 @ 144 Hz, 120Hz, 100Hz

1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz

1440 x 900 @ 60 Hz

1280 x 1024 @ 60, 75 Hz

1024 x 768 @ 60, 70, 75 Hz

800 x 600 @ 56, 60, 72, 75 Hz

640 x 480 @ 60, 72, 75 Hz

720 x 400 @ 70 Hz

So at the native resolution it cannot go lower than 100Hz making it totally unsuitable for flight sim. It's fine for general games.

Oh, half a page below where I've seen. Sorry, my bad! Looks like I'll have to go for a TV instead; I haven´t seen anything for 1080...

Luis, what monitor do you have now and if you want a better one what is your budget?

As for the 2-3 second pause turn off Road Traffic and see if that helps.

Also, be aware that 80nm from an airport will cause multiple Ai to be loaded into the sim. EGLL, KLAX will cause major stutters for a few seconds. That's unavoidable.

'...from an airport'...  Do you mean by that, from the destination airport in your flight plan?  Seems like odds are pretty good you're going to be 80nm from some airport just about always.

Also, for 'long frames' as I think RobA called them, the seemingly unavoidable ones, enabling hyperthreading reduced those significantly back when I was trying to keep P3D running w/ scenery sliders quite far right, and prior to my current use habit in P3D 4.5, which is to fly in low light conditions where autogen/vegetation/detail distance/etc hardly matter.  Now, w/ so little scenery detail to load save the high detail addon airports I don't need to run HT enabled and never get long frames.  Truth be told I've always aimed to have at least some dawn/dusk in the flight plan because IMO that is when P3D looks as good as it can, save TruEarth, which I don't use for obvious reasons--prefer liquid smooth performance always and it's great now, even in old v4.5.

As you learned Ray that is not always the case as in my Dell 3415W nowhere in its documentation will you find the monitor can do 30Hz.  I only learned it could when I looked in nV Control Panel where 30Hz is a choice in the resolutions dropdown menu.

But I could never recommend a monitor to someone based on that criteria. I have to go off the official site. If users wish to experiment with different settings it's at their own risk.

No, from any airport but it's only the big ones with lots of gates where the stutters are noticeable because of the CPU loading all the Ai. Flying from Geneva to Heathrow you fly to the east of Paris. Once you hit the 80nm point there will be big stutters whilst the load takes place.

My PC was built professionally with HT enabled. I discussed this with them and the advice was to leave it on. I've seen plenty of discussion with on and off both recommended.

What I haven't yet done is setup an Affinity Mask setting as I did for v4.5. That will follow once I have SimStarterNG installed.

Here you go--proven 30Hz capable by yours truly, and it's still being sold:

https://www.newegg.com/dell-u3415w-34/p/N82E16824260239?item=N82E16824260239&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-_-monitors - lcd flat panel-_-dell-_-24260239&source=region

It also is fully adjustable and accepts display port and HDMI.   It is not HDR capable per se, but its version of this is called Dynamic Contrast, and it is very effective.  I use the Game preset which enables Dynamic Contrast for MSFS, but use Multimedia preset w/o DC for P3D v4.5.

My current monitor is just my 15.6" 1920x1080 60 Hz laptop display, so almost anything for me will be an upgrade. If we consider US prices, my budget would be limited to barely $180 (the one I showed you before is $160 in Amazon for US customers; but here in Argentina they charge you $450). Because monitors are rather heavy, importing it by myself would be even more expensive 😭

@Luis Hernandez, this discussion is in the P3D forum. You would get a bigger response by posting in the Hardware, Graphics forum. https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/327-monitors-multi-monitors-video-cards-drivers/

I appreciate the prices in Argentina make choices difficult.

Finally I purchased the monitor, Ray. I'll only say here that it works, but I find 120 Hz/24 FPS RTSS/NCP lock smoother than 25 Hz/VS+TB+Unlocked FPS.

Hi Ray, what AM did you use in 4.5? I'm getting a new rig in the next days.

Hi Luis,

I used Cores 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Sorry, I don't know what AM that works out at but it was advised by @SteveW.
