Hi to all. Used to be on here way back in time. Can't even remember ..MFS maybe 2 to around early 2000s ..anyway, decided to jump back with 2020. its a huge 1nstall and has been installing for 2 hours and still has a ton to go.
Looking forward to the adventure.

I was also somewhat surprised this forum is still here. Kudos to everyone for keeping it going.

Hopefully my system can handle it. A

I had given away all my yokes, pedal, throttle, etc. What's a good set to use? Probably mid price.

Hi. You should be all good for 2d flying at fairly high settings.

If you're using vr, msfs isn't running quite as well as people think it should, and users with high end systems (RTX 3080/3090 etc) are still not getting much above 30 FPS but hopefully this will be improved.

🙂

Hi David, welcome back to MSFS am sure you won’t regret it 😊

in terms of hardware go checkout these guys for quality at a reasonable price. Be warned though the Bravo Throttle quadrant is hard to get hold of at the moment.

Welcome back to Avsim.

What you'll find is that a reasonably decent computer which can run fairly recent games such as Skyrim and Call Of Duty etc will have no problem running MSFS. Where the thing starts slowing down is when people start going for very high resolutions. But the sim looks pretty good at 1920x1080 and you can get away with most of the detail option sliders being on full throttle at that kind of screen resolution on a fairly average PC, so try that.

The arrival of MSFS meant more people were buying the sim and wanting controllers for it, in combination with the global zombie apocalypse lockdown affecting manufacturing, this has meant there's a bit of a shortage of Joysticks and throttles etc, so don't be surprised to see prices hiked up a bit because of that. Having said that, you can go for something comparatively cheap and cheerful to get you going and not worry too much. For example, something like this will do the job okay. If you look on my youtube channel, there is a review of that controller, and whilst it isn't built to last forever, I am still using that thing seen in that review which was done in 2019, so it has lasted pretty well and is still going strong.

Hope you have fun when the thing is all installed.

Your system is certainly ok for 1920x1080.  I upgraded to an RTX3070 gpu and a 5600x cpu and it runs pretty much maxed out at that resolution.  I think I would need a bit more oomph though if I were to move up to a 4k monitor or get into VR. Certainly would change the 3070 to a 3080 in those circumstances (which would also require a new PSU).

I don't know how the guys still using hard drives are getting on, but I bought a 1 TB m.2 SSD especially for MSFS.

thanks all. for sure pricing on yokes etc have gone up. I've been looking at reviews, many give pricing, but a lot of the sets are as much as $100 more than reviewed just months ago.
