P3D V5 settings advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Overall my V5 performing flawlessly, no CTD no out of VRAM error so far. However, the performance over major airports is not flyable to me, with default aircraft I get around 20FPS and frequently dropping to around 15, cannot have a smooth view. Here are some pictures of my settings in P3D. Hopefully someone can help and explain which one impacts heavily the performance as I have done some searching over google and so far not so much information.

Computer system i7 10700F, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080 8GB VRAM. 2k resolution 144Hz

System Win10 64bit, P3D V5, UK2000 EGLL and Imaginesim KATL, traffic from AIG. ASP3D, ASCA , Envtex, Envshade

Thank you.

Start with no car traffic and AI aircraft half of what you have right now.

Aiport vehicle density to medium or even low.

Shadow quality first to Low and if the overall FPS is good than you could try Medium.

Mesh resolution to 5m. Texture resolution to 30 cm.

Your gpu is not very strong so keep the refreshrate as low as possible.

Maybe drop the 4xSSAA to MSAA aswell. Doesn't look as good but should save a few FPS.

Cloud Draw distance maybe try 80 or 90

Dynamic reflections and water detail to medium would help a bit too.

Play about with Vsync on/off try locking frames to 30.

Looks like you are 4k resolution? Maybe try going back to 1440p if you can bear that.

I would start right off with lowering AI and dynamic reflections, then reducing autogen and switching to MSAA, then shadows and mesh/tesellation resolution.

SSAA and dynamic lighting at 4K with a 1080?  I could barely pull that off with a pair of 1080Ti GPUs or a 2080Ti.

As airports go, EGLL is a well-known performance sinkhole...especially with 70% AI traffic.

Shadows at high/high is also a big performance hit.

In general, your settings are writing checks that your hardware can't cash...the recommendations up-thread are all worth considering.

Thank you. I'm using 144Hz refresh rate as anything below it makes me feel uncomfortable, so does it affect P3D performance?

Thank you, I'm using 2k resolution. Locking the frames to 30 make my simulator very laggy, I dont know why

I'm using 2k monitor and yes, after this topic I can see that my GPU is not that strong anymore.

I will try to lower the settings because with other big airports the system can handle FPS around 25-30 above easily with PMDG/FSLabs

After following all of your suggestions, I managed to get pretty high (example KATL Atlanta from ~20 to ~35-40 FPS) except for EGLL London area, I guess it's a no go for me to that area.

So far the overall quality of the sceneries still very good to me with the lower settings.

Thanks again for all your help, due to the "bitcoin" era I could not get a better GPU with reasonable price. Hate it so much

You should take a look at the FREE program called Razer Cortex which releases RAM by closing unnecessary Windows programs.

Thank you, I will look into it, I don't really have the habit of closing the applications on my window. Just leave it there until I shut down the computer

FWIW, Razer Context is the worst piece of software I have ever installed. I am not sure how or why, but I believe with almost 100% certainty that it corrupted mu W10 installation. I have spent the better parts of yesterday and today working to undue the damage without a complete Windows reinstallation. Thanks to some advice from friends at my VA forum I used cmd prompt and a DISM program to correct file errors, topping it off with sfc /scannow.
