P3Dv4 low FPS

Hi Elias, okay that resolution is not demanding. Just make sure Nvidia Inspector is not running as it’s no longer required for P3D v4.

The main CPU core will only be at 100% if you’re in a demanding area.

Try this. Load P3Dv4 and place a default aircraft at a remote airport. I suggest YBAS. That is Alice Springs in the middle of Australia. That way I know there will be no influence from any other man-made object. Ensure it’s daylight.

Don't run Rex weather. Set it internally to clear skies. Your frame rates will be extremely high. Maybe 80+.

Check CPU1. It should be nowhere near 100%. Report back with your findings. If things are okay there then try adding a third party complex aircraft at the same airport and see what difference there is.

Oh, one other thing. What refresh rate does your monitor run at? 60Hz perhaps?

Mace: I tested again, the CPU usage (PMDG 747-8, KEWR) 15% but CPU core 0 is at 100%, all other CPU cores are not even at 20% /

Ok -- very good.  That is what I expect for P3Dv4 -- core0 at a high usage level and the others lower.

You should do what @Ray Proudfoot suggests above -- go to YBAS or other remote airport with a default aircraft -- CPU Core0 usage should be less than 100% (unless you're running unlimited frames and vsync off)

Ok, Nvidia Inspector is not used anymore.

RESULT YBAS: Default A/C Outside View 60 FPS, Cockpit View: 60 FPS / CPU 11% BUT Core "0" uses about 80% of it's capacity, all other cores are nearly not used. / GPU Load: 40 %

Addon A/C (PMDG 747-8): Outside View 60 FPS, Cockpit View: 38 FPS / CPU 14% BUT Core "0" 100%, all other cores nearly not in use / GPU Load: 32% ???

Affirm, my monitor runs at 60 Hz.

Thank you once again

Hi Elias,

Good. Your fps is being limited by the monitor refresh rate. If you want to see what the maximum is turn off VSync and I bet it will go close to 100.

What these numbers tell me is that even in a sparse area with no weather or Ai traffic your settings are high enough to push CPU1 close to 100% with the PMDG747 running. No wonder it runs at a crawl at busy airports.

Can you provide some screenshots of your settings so we can judge if some can be reduced? You’ll need to use independent hosting like Dropbox etc.

My System: Intel Core I9-9900K 3,6 GHz

Elias, I just noticed this in your first post. It’s very unusual to run such a powerful CPU at its default clock speed. That processor can be overclocked quite easily to 4.5Ghz or greater. That would give you a significant boost to performance.

Did you buy the system from a professional PC builder? Or did you build it yourself? If bought from a builder did they offer an overclocking service?

Regarding the system, it was build by myself, or better said by a friend of mine with me observing😅. I was also already thinking about overclocking but i'm not sure if I should really overclock it by myself with my basic knowledge, and due to COVID border restrictions my friend is unable to help me.

I turned VSync OFF, Outside View 135 FPS, Cockpit View 90 FPS.

I'm working on the screenshots

Ok just found it, Task Manager shows CPU Speed: 4,68 GHz

Elias, it looks like your friend has overclocked the CPU because the speed shown above could only be achieved by overclocking. 4.7Ghz is great!

”I turned VSync OFF, Outside View 135 FPS, Cockpit View 90 FPS”.

That tells me there’s nothing substantially wrong with your system. Something is having a major impact. Just need to identify what. Relocate to a quiet German airfield well away from major cities. Recheck your fps. They shouldn’t be significantly different.

Then add one major component like Rex weather and report the difference. Keep VSync off for now so fps isn’t limited. Ignore any screen tearing.

Ok Ray, I finaly managed to get these screenshots uploaded.

I know these are not the lowest settings and we can of course try to lower them a bit, but I just thougt if I don't see any difference I will keep them high.

Hello Lida maybe I can help you out I have a similar system i78700k 2080 super.                   Are you familiar on setting up p3d? By default p3d will run on core 0 are you cpu bottleneck? What is you cpu usage and clock speed? Are you familiar with msi after burner or hw monitor or any monitor software? We need to know this things.                                     Right now in having issues with fps but that is due to a driver I installed but before that my gpu clocks out at 1980 giving me over 100 fps on fairly high settings,to get around the cpu bottle neck I been using process lasso just for p3d it runs great ot could be a few things but if you fps changes when in different areas it might be the cpu bottlenecking  if you haven't already look into how to set affinity mask with a 6 core cpu assigning 4 cores to p3d is plenty, they are calculators out there to help you set it in ped config something like this [Job Scheduler]                                                      Affinity mask=14.    That is an example but  there is calculators online to help you set that up,prepard is a beautiful sim but very old tech on this newer rigs we get better performance on msfs on pd3 I expect 400 fps in 1080p I get 150 in msfs.its not the computer it's the sim

Elias, nothing leaps out at me as being the cause of your poor performance at busy airports.

It’s a personal thing but try turning off HDR. I don’t have that enabled and it might be a factor.

I choose EDXW as an test airport:

FPS: Outside View / Cockpit View: 110 / 85

Adding Chaseplane: 92 / 82

Adding Active Sky Weather: 86 / 80

Adding Complex Aircraft (PMDG 747-8): 80 / 38

Now without changing anything else move to a major addon airport and the difference is the impact of that airport.

Keep Ai aircraft slider to zero otherwise you’ve changed two things and we won’t know the impact of each.

Turn HDR off and on to see how much impact it has.

Football to watch now so back in 2 hours.

@Ray: I will try to leave HDR off in the next time, maybe it helps, right now there is no FPS difference unfortunately.

@pelgrin21: Hey, thanks for trying to help me out, I have only the necessary technical knowledge which you need to be able to fly on a simulator but I'm far away from being an computer expert. Means I'm not familar with MSI Afterburner, Overclocking or Monitor Software, in my case, drivers are all current. As mentioned above CPU Speed: about 4,7 GHz and CPU usage about 15%. CPU Core "0" = 100%, all other cores nearly not used. Yes I have already tried a few affinity mask settings, unfortunately without success.

Kind regards

Elias

Lida here is a link of an affinity mask to put on cfg if you haven't done so don t worry about the 32 bit version what the web page says        https://www.gfsg.co.uk/affinitymask.aspx?SubMenuItem=utilties like I was trying to tell you I run process lasso I use cores 2,3,4 and 8 I have no issues.                           Btw I'm having fps issues I did a clean install on gpu drivers on both of my computers that run prepard I don't recommend gpu clean install on prepar unless you have problems.
