March 2, 20215 yr Dear Community, I finally decided to ask somebody for help because I ran out of ideas how to solve my low fps problem. My System: Intel Core I9-9900K 3,6 GHz GPU: RTX 2080 Super (8GB) 32 GB RAM Simulator is installed on its own hard drive and I'm using up to date Windows 10 and an up-to-date P3Dv4 version. My FPS when running the Simulator: Flight in remote area: 60 FPS / Flight in "Normal" area: 30-40 FPS / Landing on a normal Airport: 20 FPS / AND NOW THE BIG ISSUE: Areas like New York, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, London, Paris,..... where I receive between 7 and 12 FPS. (Example: KEWR, PMDG 747-8, Cockpit View, 7-13 FPS, CPU usage: 20%, GPU usage: 27%, RAM usage: 48%) Addons in use: Active Sky, REX Skyforce, some ORBX products, Addon Airports where I fly to (all certified for P3Dv4), Addon Aircrafts (PMDG/Aerosoft/Captain Sim/Qualitywings/Majestic), Ai Traffic (Created by myself), Chaseplane and GSX. I know, all these addons together may have a huge impact on my performance, but disabling or uninstalling them didn't show any effect. The only thing I found out is that if I don't use the Ai Traffic I get 3-5 FPS more, but I prefer having traffic. I already tried many reinstallations, tweaks, cfg rebuilds and so on, unfortunately no effect. Same story with the settings, it doesn't matter if I put all sliders to the left or all sliders to the right, there is a difference of not more than 2 FPS in total. (Of course, I didn’t leave all sliders on the right side) Please don't get me wrong, I don't expect 60 FPS the whole time, but I would love to be able to land an aircraft properly, which is simply impossible in a diashow. I would be extremely happy with 20-25 FPS the whole time. If there is somebody who has other ideas except trying to reinstall everything again, and again, and again. Hope to find a solution, thank you very much in advance Kind regards Elias Edited March 3, 20215 yr by Lidad97
March 2, 20215 yr Author I just saw, we already discussed this, or a similar problem 2 years ago. Well my system improved by a lot but obviously problem is still not solved, so give it another try😊

This part does not make since. There should be a large difference in FPS. You cannot lower settings and get smooth frame rate? Typically its all in the settings. I can make P3D run fine on a laptop, I think there maybe something else going on. Go to Task Manager/Startup tab and turn off everything you don't need. (take a snap shot so you can put it back) No virus programs, no internet enabled, nothing else on. Restart and see if it runs better. I agree with TurboKen -- if the sliders aren't doing much...then it makes me wonder if something else isn't going on. Also when you talk of CPU usage, you need to be looking at the main thread, not the Task Manager composite of all threads as you are doing. You can also look at individual cores in Task Manager, and that is what you want to do. It should be way, way higher than 20%. While upgrading to P3Dv5 would surely help, you should still be able to maintain 30 or close to it with your hardware in v4. The fact that sliders aren't affecting your fps means you have something else eating your cpu cycles... Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
March 4, 20215 yr Elias, 2 questions: 1) At which resolution do you run P3D? 2) How did you set your AA, in both P3D settings and Nvidia Inspector? Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.
March 4, 20215 yr Author Dear Community: Thank you for your fast response:) TurboKen: Affirm, changing the P3D settings does not influence my FPS rate. (Maybe just 1-2 FPS but negligible) I have also tried to disable everything again, as you mentioned. But no change:( Mace: I tested again, the CPU usage (PMDG 747-8, KEWR) 15% but CPU core 0 is at 100%, all other CPU cores are not even at 20% / About P3Dv5, I have already thought about that, but I don't think that I want to spend thousands of euros again for addons to maybe have everything working in P3dv5. Especially because in 1-2 years the MS2020 will have reached a standard where it is usable for real simulation as well. Luis Hernandez: Resolution = Ultra 4096x4096 / AA = 8xMSAA (I have tried lower/different settings, unfortunately without success) / Nvidia Inspector settings: I didn't change anything except PWR Management Mode: Prefer Max Performance. AA is Application controlled in Nvidia Inspector (I tried a few more thinks in there, but, no success) Thank you for your support, I'm looking forward for further ideas. Kind regards Elias

March 4, 20215 yr Author Hey Luke, I usually have the gaming mode of my computer activated when flying. Can you tell me where I can see if it is running at top speed and if not how can I force it to do so?
March 4, 20215 yr Commercial Member I'd use something like CPU-Z and GPU-Z. NV Inspector can give you this data about your GPU (only) as well. Cheers! Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

March 4, 20215 yr Author I checked again (PMDG 747-8; KEWR) GPU Clock is around 2 GHz, and GPU load is nearly 100%. Edited March 4, 20215 yr by Lidad97
March 4, 20215 yr Moderator @Lidad97,Luis asked you what resolution you were running at and you replied Ultra 4096. That's the texture resolution. He was referring to screen resolution. 1920*1080 or 3840*2160? Or something else? Don't run Nvidia Inspector. Just set Unlimited in P3D and VSync On. If CPU is running at 100% you've got settings the CPU is unable to deliver. Ray (Cheshire, England). March 4, 20215 yr Author Hey Ray, thank you for your reply:) Oh ok, I'm sorry, screen resolution is 1920*1080. I will try this advise with Nvidia Inspector. CPU was at 15%, it was just 1 CPU core which was at 100%. And the GPU as I found out earlier today. But how can it be that a RTX 2080 Super is not enough to fly on P3Dv4. And as already mentioned, I tried to put all sliders to the left, disable and enable shadows, change REX settings and so on.... There was simply no difference visible in FPS and if I have to choose between 10 FPS and it looks ugly and 10 FPS and it looks nice then I will take the second option. Regards Elias
