Mooney 20R vs Piper Arrow III

I wonder with anticipation what could (will ?) be the alliance of the search for technical accuracy à la A2A  and Asobo search for flying sensation. Might be the winning ticket without the need to go much beyond in terms of modelling. Pity that Asobo didn't give it a try at least for one default model instead of a plethora of so so aircraft.

Cost is not a problem for those like me who buy few aircraft and fly them a long time each. Since FSX release I purchased 15-odd aircraft only, mostly from A2A (8 !), Sibwings, RealAIr, Milviz and Lotus. Better have few but good simcraft even if they are expensive than a multitude of mediocre and cheap products.

Actually they seem to have tried to get at least "one of everything" in the GA light single/twin area. For example:

  • fixed gear tricycle
  • fixed gear tailwheel
  • retractable gear
  • amphibious
  • tundra/bush plane
  • flaps
  • flaperons
  • no flaps at all
  • glass cockpit
  • steam gauges
  • fixed prop
  • variable prop
  • mixture control
  • no mixture control
  • aerobatic
  • biplane
  • turboprop
  • piston

They missed radial though 😄

To be honest - it would be hard to cover all that in less planes then they have.

I think the Asobo model of the C172 is superb, and the sound pack is also top notch.
I just wish someone would release an improvement pack to get it towards A2A level, like someone has done with the Xplane model.

Asobo working with A2A for this would have been superb - the merger of Asobo modelling and A2A accuracy would be an absolute killer aircraft for this sim.

On another note, and me wanting to get my pants off!  😆  It appears someone has taken up the request (flightsim.to) and will investigate removing the wheel pants on the default C172.  Might not be possible or easy, but it is listed as having a go!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I just tried the X Plane model about a week ago. I have about 200 hours in a real C 172, and the X plane model is the worst sim aircraft I have ever flown. The MS 2020 default and the A2A aircraft are so much better, they are not even in the same league.

If A2A would be good enough to port over their T-6 😄 !

Yes, I agree.  I was on about the professional improvement pack for the default Xplane C172.  It was a separate purchase through a third party.  Did you have that?  About $20.

My main point was that I wish someone would improve the default MSFS C172 by adding some finishing touches, like Fly By Wire and Working Title have done with the A320Neo and CJ4.
Either that, or we will have to wait for A2A.
