December 21, 200619 yr Is it just me or does others out there have "NO" taxi light when you turn on the switch? I do have landing lights but they are too bright to see well when taxiing the various aircraft.Terry
December 21, 200619 yr It is a known bug (not sure how it made it to the shelves like that) that will hopefully be fixed in the FSX SP1. Jay Vorkapic
December 21, 200619 yr Author Many of the default planes in FSX do have taxi/landing lights but may not work the way you want them too.Example is the default B737. The switch is NOT the Taxi Light switch but the inboard landing light tandam switch. You will not realize it is a nose wheel Taxi Light unless the plane is moving. If the plane is stopped it resembles part of the inboard landing lights. Also the switch is upside down. Turn off the switch for the Taxi/inboard Landing lights to work. There are 3 animated motions (less flight control surface) up front when you turn the airplane that is moving.Nose WheelTaxi Light on ground if check mark is in setup (inboard lights stationary)Pilots Head (left seat only) The NAV Position light switch is missing in the B737 and those lights must be turned on with the "L" key.
December 21, 200619 yr Hi Jim,I'm confused about this taxi/landing light thing.Am I correct in saying there is no taxi light as such, only steerable landing lights? What I get.737 dark, no lights. In 2D cockpit view, o/head panel shows outboard landing lights off, inboards on and taxi off.Switch taxi light on, no change. Switch inboards on I get a bright cone of light from the centre of the plane and dimmer light either side.If I then turn the aircraft there is no visible movement of light from the cockpit but in spot view I can see the outer dimmer cone of light turn with the plane. If I turn the taxi light switch off there is no visible change to the lights which suggests the taxi light switch does nothing and the only lighting on the ground is from the landing lights. If I switch the outboard light switch that also seems to have no effect.Just to confuse things in VC view all 4 landing light switches work together but are opposite the 2D inboard switches. When the 2D inboard switches are off the VC switches are on!!
December 21, 200619 yr >Thanks,>>I thought there was something wrong with the program.>>Terry> And indeed there is...try starting the default King AIr,Beech Baron or Grumman Goose from cold and dark, using the start switches on the panel. They won't start, but useCTL-E and they start. After the CTL-E start, shut them downthen they WILL restart from the panel switches. There are apparently some parameters...fuel sitches, etc...that are NOT available in the cockpit but ARE set with aCTL-E autostart. Once set, they remain set until, of couse, you exit the plane.I just can't believe how many little problems like this thereare and how they could have possibly been missed if the codehad been tested "as users would use it"! December 21, 200619 yr >Hi Jim,>-snip->Just to confuse things in VC view all 4 landing light switches>work together but are opposite the 2D inboard switches. When>the 2D inboard switches are off the VC switches are on!!> Another case of failure to test properly, IMO. Seems the gauges in the 2D cockpit and those in the VC do not share the same variables that are used to define the state of the lights. I've noticed this problem but haven't taken the time yet to try to correct it, if it is at all possible. Too busy chasing down other problems, like the cold & dark manual start issues. Paul
December 22, 200619 yr Author >>If I then turn the aircraft there is no >visible movement of light from the cockpit>The plane must be moving forward for the taxi light to move left or right (bright center cone). The taxi light is a nose wheel light on the default B737 and will be the brighter cone vs the inboard landing lights (double cones) that always stay positioned straight ahead. The Taxi Light switch does nothing in 2D mode. Use the Inboard light switch in the Off position for the taxi and inboard landing lights to work. The outboard dual light switch is a retract set of landing lights. I don't know yet if they are modeled into the mdl but if so a keyboard command may have to be added to get them to come on.
January 12, 200719 yr Wow this is unbelievable. First no dusk/dawn lighting now it seems aircraft made compatible for FSX have no taxi lights. It's funny I remember a sim called FS2000 that didn't have any landing/taxi lights either... It will be interesting to see if all these little things actually get fixed in the upcoming patch (along with the performance issue).
January 12, 200719 yr Moderator >I just can't believe how many little problems like this there>are and how they could have possibly been missed if the code>had been tested "as users would use it"!Just for the record, the beta team never had the opportunity to test the RTM versions of the default a/c... sad, but true nonetheless. The changeover to implement Shader based effects has had a negative effect on the previous "texture based" method of LIGHT_LAND and LIGHT_TAXI "lights." Models built using the new compiler use an entirely different method for visible landing/taxi light ground splashes.A large part of the problem with the default a/c is that they are a mixture of FS9 and FSX models. Not all were "converted fully" to be FSX complaint. *:-* Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 12, 200719 yr Interesting it is...has the team actually anounced the SP's will be forthcoming? Also, do I have this correct whilst flying the Cessna Caravan I was in the pattern and turned on the landing lights to get a peek at them from an external view. They were not visible, yet when I arrived at the "numbers" for the the flare I was able to see the lighting effect on the runway and then while taxing to the ramp.Interesting, I always love the early days of an MS FS release don't you?T.
