December 22, 200619 yr I am having increasingly annoying problems with updrafts on approach in many different types of aircraft to the point where the throttle is idle, the nose is pointed at the ground at a 45 degree angle and i am still rising. This is becoming a terrible problem in fsx and i was wondering if any of you are having it as well? I usually fly the choppers and can literally hover over an airport for 5 minutes with no collective input and then all of a sudden i drop like a rock. Is this normal behavior? It seems like this is wayyy over exaggerated from real life. I could not land near portland today in the libery xl2 to save my life. This was also with user settings to fair weather and no real world settings other than winds aloft which is probably whats causing it. I would be throttle idle and rising like a balloon no matter what i did....arggghh.
December 22, 200619 yr Yes,Bumpy near approach end of runways, where land meet mountain, etc.It is really "always" there now. I have noticed it during taxi .. wing bounce. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
December 22, 200619 yr Yeah I'm all for the bumpyness and turbulence, but updrafts so strong that they make my plane or helo rise from 500-1000fpm with a nose angle of 45 degrees to the ground?? Come on!! Are these realistic flight dynamics?
December 22, 200619 yr Yes I am getting these also. I can be going into final approach with the nose down at 45deg. This has to be a bug in FSX.P
December 23, 200619 yr Well dang me! For the first time I was flying around Portland in the LIC Christen Eagle, and went over to land at Troutdale . . . either direction, in the cct with power right off - could NOT put 'er down. Eventually killed the motor. I figured it was something different about the flight dynamics of FS9 aircraft used in FSX. . . she just floated, as if we were in a thermal. . . not much in the way of bumps - which are normally very realistic. I've never had the problem before last night, and tonight I've been flying the Flight1 Cessna around Seattle, so I will take a closer look tomorrow. December 23, 200619 yr I get a few updrafts here & there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Nor on the approaches as mentioned by others. I haven't changed default settings either ?????? I usually use fair weather or real weather.L.Adamson
December 23, 200619 yr I'm getting them all over the place. The other night i tried to land at frederick maryland airport in the bell and had to hover for over 5 mins with no collective before it finally dropped like a rock. I get one of these mega updrafts at least once a day and i know its some kind of bug.
December 23, 200619 yr I just noticed it happening since the weather server has come back on line. Coincedence? I tried to land the A321 today and as soon as I disconnected the autopilot it just wouldn't sink. Same results with the 737. Then a few hours later took a flight using real weather and landedthe 737 no problem.
December 23, 200619 yr Try unchecking the turbulence button in advanced weather wind. That seems to do the trick.B
December 23, 200619 yr FSX models turbulence much better than FS9. Unfortunately there is definitely a bug with some of the updrafts. Although 2000fpm updrafts and more are certainly a possibility in clear air, they are rare and would last less than a minute before flying out of the rising air. In FSX if you hit one of these it just keeps going on and on and on ... You can disable it with by turning off turbulence by you lost a great feature of FSX. It has been mentioned in several posts so let's hope it is fixed in The Patch.

The updrafts/downdrafts that I've experienced are of short duration, and I've had none that's caused landing problems. My area of flight is mostly in the mountain west area, west of Denver. Is any of this, location specific? L.Adamson
December 23, 200619 yr I've experienced these massive uplifts on numerous occasions. One aerodrome at which they have always been present is YSBK departing off one of the 11 rwys. I have noticed that turning off turbulence or clearing all weather will fix the problem. Yesterday I flew through the area where I had been having problems & it was absent for the first time since loading fsx. On this occasion I was using ASV 6.5 for weather. I have used ASV 6.5 in the same area before & had the problem so I'm not confident AS is a cure. If it's not a FSX bug (it may well be a bug) then it might have something to do with the way we set up the weather in FSX or how FSX reads the downloaded weather. I'd like to test it on line with vatsim weather but so far SB4 isn't available & I can't get copilot to load, thus no FSinn.
December 24, 200619 yr Author This is a known bug where ACES is aware of and have said that they are looking into it, so they may incorporate a fix in SP1
