  1. Claude,I suggest that you do not disable your firewall however I have run with my AVG Pro disconnected and got away with it. You must remember to reinsatate after a flying session, that for me is the biggest risk, forgetting. If I want to improve performance and make TP run faster I disable all non-microsoft services. This has the effect of closing antivirus plus a load of updaters which you definately do not want to run in flight. With the latest version of TP I have found that I do not need to do that. I have a quad core pc running at 3.3 gigsBernard

  3. Pity about Google because outside of America they were usually the best. I for one would be quite happy with Google restricted to 1 meter resolution if this would bring the service back. Would that resolve some of the issues with the mapping providers? Google at 1 meter on an older version of the map would be better than a resolution of 4.5 meters of anyone else's. VE in some parts of the world is c**p, there is no other word for it. Bern

  5. I think I now have the problem sorted. I am using Vista and the recommended settings for FSX work just fine. No more crashes from TP. The settings for FS9 produce horrible blocky coastlines.UAC was disabled a long time ago as were all the restrictive file access permissions that the system would let me change. I think Vista is a pain in the rectum, end of.Thanks for your help Ed.Bernard
  6. Thanks Ed for replying,I am using Vista 32. I will try the FS9 recommendation. The infuriating thing is that I have had this working once. I have been so pre-occupied with getting my broadband running again (3 BT telephone engineers later) that I have forgotten what changes I have made in the past.ThanksBernard
  7. I have recently had some connection problems so have not been flying with TP for a few weeks. Having got back I find that I am still having the same problem as before namely the TP shuts itself down after loading scenery (but it can also shut down during a flight). At this point the scenery becomes corrupted. 8. A 2megs internet connection is good enough for all but the highest resolution of 30cm. in my experience. A quad core at 3000 megs should supply 1200 tps when flying.Turn off all none microsoft services on your pc. This will free up resources.Bern
  9. Can anyone tell me why TP shuts down before all scenery is loaded leaving FSX to cope with what is saved.I am flying from Inverness airport using VE. I am not loading 30cm scenery only everything down to 60cm.BernVista, SP2, DX10

  11. What is the new web address for Google. I keep getting error messages - Unable to resolve host.Bern

  13. More on the G****e topic. Is anyone sucessfully using G****e at the moment? I get timed out immediately and the captcha does not make any difference?Even deleting all G's cookies and starting afresh makes no difference.ThanksBernard
  14. When flying over Italy using VE I get this error message with:access mip level <> for resolution 1024 failed on tile (file location) PHOTOREAL WORLD0602TEXTURE013001123220121SU.BMP with buffered resolution 512.The area immediately beneath the aircraft is pale blue. Further out from this it is ok.Any ideas anyone. It looks to me as if the highest resolution tiles have failed to load and this is confirmed by the TUI graphic. But why should I get blue ground and not just low resolution tiles?Bernardp.s. I am using VE because GE just times me out very very quickly even using captcha, which does not want to work.
  15. >You could just choose an icon you like and assign it to the>shortcut with properties -> Change icon...I am using a globe (world) with an orange arrow on the left. It is better than the one the system chose on installation. If I were designing one I would have a globe (or part of a globe) shown as a mosaic of tiles.B
  16. Ok :-hmmm B
  17. I'll take that as a no then. :-( B
  18. Christian,Any chance of an icon for tileproxy? The system default looks very dull.Bernard
  19. >NewEgg has an Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4 Ghz that would fit my>motherboard. I assume this would cause a great jump in my FSX>performance from my current CPU?>>BrandonYes you should get a better performance from a new quad core especially if you overclock it. 3GHz should be possible though I do not know much about your mobo.Bern
  20. TP will still access the internet even though you have a cache. I think this is because TP will only load high resolution tiles in the immediate vicinity of your aircraft. If you fly over that area again and you do not fly the EXACT route a different set of tiles will be loaded. You can see what has been loaded in the Manage Service Caches facility.Check when TP is loading that you do not get the comment (and this is from memory so may not be exactly correct) "Turning Cache facility off - it does not work for you"This happened to me because TP had not got permission to access the caches from Windows Vista. If you are running Vista check your permissions and turn UAC off.Bern
  21. TPS figure whilst loading looks ok but your tps whilst flying should be 10 times that which you are getting.Things to try :Run only FSX and TP on your system and see what you get.Disable all none microsoft services with msconfig. This will turn of virus checker and spybot checkers if you have them and free up resources.Run only with the 60cm resolution. If you read through the recent postings in the forum you will find loads of useful information.I can recommend quad cores.Bern

The 30cm resolution may only be feasible# if you have at least 2GB of system memory.max_lod=16You must have the latest version of TP. I do not have any probs updating at this resolution providing that I turn off all none microsoft services. Doing this turns off virus checker, spybot checker and auto updating software that clutters memory and uses resources. You also need a decent broadband speed 1.5Mbps is just about ok.Bern

In a word no.Providing that you do not have any resource hungry virus or spyware progs running at he same time. You need at least 2 gigs of memory to run at the highest resolution (30cm).I can fly at 75 KIAS at a resolution of 60cm no worries. You will need good cooling. Tileproxy is as good as any stress test for your system. During flight you will see well over 1000 tiles per sec and during loadup tps's in excess of 3000.EnjoyBern
  24. Just a stab in the dark - I take it that you have only one service enabled in proxyUser.ini?Example:# The currently active service is configured here. Only ONE active source please.# The other source statements should be commented out.#source=Acme Globe Service#source=VirtualEarthsource=Google#source=Yahoo#source=AskBernard
  25. hilton replied to a post in a topic in The TileProxy Project Forum
Don,If you are using 30cm textures then your pc needs at least 2 gigs of memory. This data is retrieved from the internet or your service cache folders if you have flown the area before. Memory requirement does not change either way.I have 2 gigs of memory and Vista also allocates nearly 4 gigs to the swap file in my case.Bern
