December 23, 200619 yr I can see the point. In a real cockpit-the yoke does cover some of the instruments from your viewpoint-in the older Baron/Bonanzas not only the yoke but the control bar. Of course-in the real craft you bend your head up and over to see what is being hid-harder in a virtual one-unless you have tracker IR-then you just crain your neck and look around like the real one and it works the same. If you don't have the tracker-then you have to "a" your way there which can be a pain. It would be nice if one had the option to have the yoke "on" or "off".http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 23, 200619 yr I fly with PM so I don't use any panels. My concern is that FSX still shows navigation and strobe lights when looking left or right. If no wing view, I should see no lights. Richard
December 23, 200619 yr FS9 and FSX have 2d panels? :-smile12 I fly with 2D panels about as often as I fly with my feet. Can't stand 2D panels. They are an anachronism. Might as well be flapping our arms while we're in front of the screen when we need to take off.3D or no D at all. ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.

December 26, 200619 yr Well, I use a whole combination of, mostly 3d panel flying, with some 2d, popping up cockpit areas with Shift-5 or whatnot, it depends on the plane. Mostly I taxi in VC, or with the overhead view, take off/climb/cruise in VC, but sometimes as I'm descending, esp in unfamiliar areas, I might go to 2D because you can still hit "W" and hidemost of the panel, this makes some night flying in tail draggers easy (although I know it kills the "realism"). Once I've got things set for landing if I like the VC panel (Baron, 172), I'll uusually use it to land, otherwise I use the 2D with the new "Landing" view-gives you the full panel (with no yoke btw) with a sight line a tad higher than regular 2D, which has always made it kinda rough to land with the 2D panels. I'm looking forward to the payware planes that will be coming out for FSX; those I think will be what does away with 2D panels. I have heard that the P51 by Shockwave doesn't even have a 2D panel. (I"m buying it tomorrow). Anyway I use all the views it just depends I guess on the plane or situation
December 28, 200619 yr Author I never used the VC in FS9 and previous. They seemed so unrealistic in most planes. In FSX I have become a convert to the VC and never fly with the 2D anymore except when some switch or gauge has been left off the VC or the plane only has 2D. Have you noticed that the Mooney VC has an ADF and the 2D doesn't? I still think the VC needs a little more graphical clarity; however, it adds to the realism enough to make it worth it for me. I think that the yoke should be able to be turned off in the VC so that everything behind it is easily accessible.
