How does the 2D panel crowd feel about FSX?

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering how all the big advocates of 2D panels feel about this latest release of FS. I heard side view panel views were taken out of FSX but then I heard there was a work around for that. So do those that hate VC's finding FSX better or worse than FS9?

So do those that hate VC's finding FSX>better or worse than FS9? I do wish they hadn't neutered the 2D panel since some of my favorite FS9 aircraft that I've imported into FSX do not have a VC ( L-049A for one ) and flying with those "wide open" views really sucks big time! Also, the inability of the forward 2D eyepoint adjustment to be "remembered". When one looks away from forward, then back, the eyepoint resets to the default. That was not the case in FS9. In FS9 I rarely, if ever, used the VC. However, in FSX I have been flying those aircraft alot that have a GOOD VC. The BAC-1-11 and Trident by Dave Maltby and the HS.748 by Rick Piper. I'm not enamoured with the default 737-800 VC or the A321 VC. I rarely fly GA aircraft but the Baron and King Air are acceptable. All in all, I wish they hadn't shortchanged us so much with FSX in favor of a "new camera system" and spent more time creating a bug-free product and less time creating animals... Paul

Do you really care or is this another bait thread?Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

There were so many heated debates concerning 2D panels, I'm curious myself to see how those same people feel today about this new release of Flight Simulator. Something tells me many of the vary people you would want to get feedback from are over in the FS9 forum versus this one...

There's no ulterior motive here, I'm actually curious since this hasn't been discussed in detail yet and there were so many post on the subject in the past before FSX's release. :-)

:) heheh, since you are not baiting I will respond...The 2D sideviews seem to work fine in FSX, at least in every plane I've tried, which isn't very many so far, but still, they've all worked for me. I hope that keeps happening for my imports...I have always been more of a 2D panel flyer, but in FSX I surprise myself by flying with the VC part of the time. The biggest inconvenience I see...is that the old-style gauges (aka FS98-style) are no longer supported. That is a real problem when using many panels. Some of the great gauges/panels from HJG, for example, don't work in FSX. It just seems against God and nature to fly a DC-8 with a 747-400 panel.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I have been a mostly 2D flyer in FS9, however, in FSX I only fly the VC. Better lighting and clarity have made the difference. The only problem is that MS have hidden a number of key switches behind the Yoke and I end up having to open the 2D to do things like arm the autofeather. I am sure with payware models that are designed a little better I will be 100% VC in FSX. Can't wait to add TrackIR into the mix.Mark.

My thoughts exactly Mark. I don't use the 2D panel for anything except to switch on or off obscure switches etc. I fly pretty exclusively in the VC.>I have been a mostly 2D flyer in FS9, however, in FSX I only>fly the VC. It seems more difficult to move eyepoint in FSX 2d. that is making it really hard for me. I find I'm having to use the VC just to get good outside views. The sideview issue also seems like one MS could hve found a way to work around. The default panels with head down/head up options is a nice touch.scott s..

I was always a diehard 2D panel guy in FS9, but I've switched to VC for FSX and I'm really enjoying it. It ruffles me to have to switch to 2D for some switches, as Marks states above. Some great add-ons, like the Shockwave P-51 are VC only.Jim

I've found that cycling the A key in the VC will usually bring up a view where I can access the switches that are behind the yoke.VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

>>By the way how do you change the eyepoint in the 2D view?>CTL-Q and CTL-SHift-Q. You need to hold the combo down as it is a smaller increment than in FS9.Also, as soon as you look left/right or anywhere else, you have to do it all over again :( Paul

I could never understand the logic of putting an unremovable yoke in any form of panel. I have my own Ch yoke in front of me. I don't need to look at a virtual one as well. Bill
