xplane11 navdata out of date

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a Navigraph subscription. At the moment I am automatically downloading (among others) into X-Plane 11(11.50+)  X-Plane GNS430,FF757/767/777,X-Crafts Embraer E175, Aerobask Skyview, JRollon Planes CRJ200 etc, and x737FMCv3.4(and above)

In X-Plane11 Custom Data I have folders GNS430, navdata, proc, and UFMC.

In GNS430 folder I have navdata and an index file. in navdata folder there is a sub-folder ... Proc and 5 text documents, including cycle_info.txt which tells me it is AIRAC Cycle 2103.

In the navdata folder I have a subfolder ... CIFP, an index file, text document, and  7 DAT Files. The text document is cycle_info.txt showing AIRAC Cycle 2103.

proc folder is full of DAT files

UFMC Folder contains a subfolder (proc) is full of DAT files and also contains 2 x text documents ... one INDEX File and 3 DAT Files.  The text document  (cycle_info.txt ) tells me that it is AIRAC Cycle 2103.

When I load the Aerobask Phenom or DA62 and load a simbrief flight plan (AIRAC 2103) I am being advised that the AIRAC information is different and that the XPlane AIRAC is 2008.

Given that all the cycle_info.txts are indicating AIRAC is current and correct, which also tells me the download paths are correct, I am wondering where this AIRAC cycle 2008 is coming from and how to correct it.

Any help, as usual is appreciated.

Not mine I think they frown on links here

s using the default data, XP11/resources/default data which is June 2020, you can copy and paste the current CIFP folder from custom data and the following earth files located in the custom data root, awy, fix, hold, mora, msa and nav. LEAVE the existing earth_astro in place within the DEFAULT data. As always back up existing files

mrjhealth,

I thank you Sir for that but it does not work for me.  I should probably have mentioned that on aircraft initialization, when the avionics come on I do get a statement that the AIRAC is out of date.

If everything is up to date, (After following your advice) where is it getting or sourcing the G1000 AIRAC data from?

This is getting a mite frustrating, I have to admit.

The whole subject is - as you found out - a bit complex. This is the most revalent blog that LR wrote on that subject:

https://developer.x-plane.com/article/navdata-in-x-plane-11/

The experts on this matter hang out in "another" website´s forum, including the person in charge of navdata in X-Plane, Philipp. He tends to also answer questions over there, as long as they have a certain level of sophistication 😉 (i.e. once you have thoroughly comprehended the linked article you can start asking any remaining questions).

Cheers, Jan

I think it come down to the fact that the data is regularly updated, the equipment knows when, you may purchase you lot the day before next run due and guess what like our PCS its already out of date

Jan,

I have just finished reading this and comprehended some 5 percent of it.  Are you saying that we are stuck with the outdated AIRAC? I still do not know where the outdated AIRAC is stored or how to update it.  mrjhealth gave me a lead which I copied but it still comes up with the 2008 AIRAC.  Could it be possible that this is this somehow linked to Garmin and their periodic (read, not very often) updates?

No, nothing to do with Garmin. For some reason, one or more files from the Navigraph installer aren’t being placed into the proper location, but I could not tell you which ones. The last time I installed the Navigraph data manager program, I told it to do a “search” for add-ons, and it found my XP 11.50 installation and automatically set up the correct paths and folders, and the data has always been active when I run XP.

JRBarrret,

Thanks for that mate.  This is the bit that hornswaggles me.  All indications are that  XPlane 11 GNS430 and UFMC are all current.

I have just done as you suggested, a scan and save,  (it found another X-Plane 11 and another XFMC so I updated those but I still have an outdated (2008) airac in the G1000

UPDATE

After I got nowhere with the last. I then copied the entire custom data folder to desktop and then proceeded to empty it all except the basic folders and sub-folders.

The next step was to remove the X-Plane 11/X-Plane11 GNS etc and the XFMC from the Navigraph addon list. Then I did a scan and got them all back and did an entire Navigraph update.

After that was finished I loaded XPlane and got an error message to the effect that no navdata was detected ... clicking on the "I understand" produced an expected CTD. So I then loaded each of the folders previously saved to desktop, one at a time. Each time i got the Navigraph message followed by CTD.  This was an effort to try to locate the offending source of AIRAC 2008.  When reloading all the folders did nothing to fix the CTD, I copied the Custom Data folder from a previously saved complete copy of XPlane 11. This at least, stopped the CTD but the AIRAC remained on 2008 (expected because the old XPlane was saved about September last year.

This was followed up by another Navigraph update and again< i have checked that the data in the three folders in Custom Data were AIRAC 2103.

I fired up XPlane and all loaded normally. I selected the Aerobask Phenom and I am STILL getting AIRAC 2008 in the G1000.

Any further ideas???

Tony

Reading the article by Philipp I think you should look at this paragraph:

The updated base – what is supplied by third-party providers

This layer is what advanced hobbyist users care about. They want updated data, because they want to fly online. Participation in the online networks usually requires fairly recent data. Aerosoft and Navigraph offer newest data by a monthly subscription. This data consists of the files:

  • earth_fix.dat
  • earth_awy.dat
  • earth_nav.dat
  • earth_hold.dat (starting with X-Plane 11.40)
  • earth_mora.dat (starting with X-Plane 11.50)
  • earth_msa.dat (starting with X-Plane 11.50)
  • CIFP/$ICAO.dat (where $ICAO is each airport with instrument procedures)

they must be located in $X-Plane/Custom Data/

I see no mention of any subfolders in the /Custom Data/ folder, but you state that you put all of your files into different subfolders.

If a plugin (like UFMC) needs specific data in a special place, it should be specified in the instructions of that program, the only addon I have (IXEG) has the navdata in the aircraft folder, for example.

I think X-Plane (and its GPS instruments) will try to reference the files in /Custom Data/ - no subfolders! If they can´t find ALL of the files referenced above, it will fall back to the /Resources/default data folder - which will always be stuck on 2008.

Cheers, Jan

Jan,

My Custom Data folder has

1. Bluebell XL Sub folders Custom, Pack A, Pack B, Pack G, Pack J, Pack P. It also contains a .DS_Store file and  a how to install jpg (JPG file)

2. CIFP, No sub folders ... full of DAT files

3. GNS430 sub folder .. navdata and an iINDEX File ... 2edd13419-de94-491d-91c5-80b4afd2d

4. proc folder ... no sub folders... full of DAT files

5. UFMC sub folder proc ... full of DAT files. It also has a .DS_Store file, Airports.txt, cycle_info.txt, earth_awy.dat, earth_fix.dat, earth_nav.dat,

    INDEX File fc7892a6-8ad8-43cc-8bbc-e0759a5b6a, ufmc_approach.dat, ufmc_sid.dat and ufmc_star.dat

Those are the folders and sub folders.

The rest of the Custom Data folder contains

2 x index files, text document/ cycle_info,txt, earth_awy.dat, earth_fix.dat, earth_hold.dat, earth_mora.dat, earth_msa.dat, earth_nav.dat, user_fix_georef.dat and a Readme.txt

I did save all of those to desktop ... then deleted the contents of all the folders, just leaving empty sub folders

After rebooting and then doing a full navigraph update for all my aircraft etc, I checked all the folders and sub folders to compare with the desktop save.  I then reinserted all the missing .dat files, INDEX files etc but still came up with the errors previously indicated. A lengthy process and one which I will not repeat as it gained me nothing but the navigation errors which were only fixed by copying the old saved Custom Data file and then updating the Navigraph.

Those files were then checked and all appeared to be up to date with AIRAC 2103.

I do not know where you got the idea that I put all the files into different sub folders, but I hope the above clarifies things for you and I apologise if I worded my last badly.

Thanks again for your response

Tony

Hmm, all I am saying is that I believe that there should be no subfolders in your /Custom Data/ folder.

You say (among others):

3. GNS430 sub folder

but you say:

So...do you have a GNS430 subfolder or not?

I know that ALL of the answers you are looking for are in the other forum, a simple google search will find it, so I bow out of this discussion. Good luck!

This is a Mac OS X junk file.... often these sneak in to zipped folders when distributing files to other people on Windows and it's a real pain

Jan,

GNS430 contains 2 sub folders 1. navdata sub folder and 2. Proc sub folder as well as an INDEX file and five text document files .... airports.txt, ATS.txt, cycle_info.txt, Navaids.txt and a Waypoints.txt file.

The navdata sub folder has a sub folder (Proc) which is all text documents and 5 test documents .... airports.txt, ATS.txt, cycle_info.txt, Navaids.txt and a Waypoints.txt file.

1. The Proc sub folder which is all text documents also has 5 text document files ...airports.txt, ATS.txt, cycle_info.txt, Navaids.txt and a Waypoints.txt file.

So, yes, I do have a GNS430 folder but NOT a GNS430 subfolder

Hello all,

Another update.

Firstly I have to report absolutely no success at all.

I have run the xplane11 installer and it came up with a 5mb update but no9 corrupt files.

Download the update but my G1000 is still reporting (in red) that the navdata is out of date. I loaded a simbrief pln  (AIRAC 2008) set up my G1000 an0d it told me that there was a mismatch in navdata as usual, and I took off from YBBN.  I flew for about 30 minutes and noticed that I was not really following the magenta line but I was roughly paralleling it but drifting to the left.  A little later I noticed that the G1000 was following default nav data.

I figured then that this is not working even on the AIRAC 2008.

I am now considering a full uninstall following up with a full reinstall, however, for the life of me, I cannot think how this would fix this problem and it would be a complete waste of time.

Do I have any other options (if indeed, this is an option) to fix the Navdata??
