Google Earth imported models

Featured Replies

Now that MSFS has "baked in" for awhile and tweaks and mods went from experimental, to "mainstream" I have to say I am not a fan whatsoever of the Google Earth imports

It seems as though almost anyone doing these has no concept of optimization, or color correction.  More importantly optimization. Even the simplest of objects tend to stutter the heck out of the sim. How is it this far into 3rd party mods has Google Earth imports not improved at all? I'm a Philadelphia guy. There is a package for every bridge crossing the Delaware river, Center City, and various points of interests and they make it completely non-enjoyably because the performance hit is intolerable.

Is this a result of lazy importing or is their just not solution to import and also make these additions performance friendly?

ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING / i9-9900k @ 4.7 all cores w/ NOCTUA NH-D15S / 2080ti / 32GB G.Skill 3200 RIPJAWS / 1TB Evo SSD / 500GB Evo SSD /  2x 3TB HDD / CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570X / IPSG 850W 80+ PLATINUM / Dual 4k Monitors

I'm also a philly guy. I got rid of the Google downtown Philadelphia, but have downloaded the bridges and Roxborough towers (taking off from Wings without the towers was weird...they look great with them there). I don't have a performance issue and am glad someone put them together. What kind of performance hit?

I found the google imports fun for the first couple of months, after that I have never imported anything. The mix of mediocre quality, lots of manual work to keep them updated, and the fact that it made troubleshooting difficult if there was a rotten apple among them, quickly turned me off of using them.

One more thing: I also noticed that I never look at these assets anyway. Give me a beautiful airplane seated at a gorgeous airport and fly over some scenic landscapes goes a long way for me.

There are a few creators of Google imports who do a very careful job with color correction and optimization.   Pretty much anything by Thalixte is likely to be good.   He actually created some Google Earth import optimization tools that folks can use that greatly increase the efficiency of those things.   I pretty much don't even bother to download models from someone I don't know if they don't say they used Thalixte's optimizer.  It's the minimum for "giving a darn" in my mind.

There are some good ones by ezro, mostly of Spain; Olmecslayer does a decent job with England, and recently Belgium;  Matt88 has done a really good job with the Netherlands, but they're getting to where they could do with a pass from the most recent version of Thalixte's tools.

There are some others, too, I'm sure, but those are the main folks I've personally found to do a good enough job to be worth the bandwidth and disk space.

Osaka Airport RW32 approach and Fukuoaka RW 34 approach scenery, both by Kaze ,  are very good and not a big hit on the frames. The Fukuoka scenery is particularly immersive on approach. Unfortunately no night lighting for these but still very much worth a look.

Agreed... if it comes from Google it gets a strong pass from me.
