When using my HP Reverb G2 with MSFS I noticed that it seem like only WMR is used. Can I just also start SteamVR and then MSFS will use it ? Reason for my question is that in SteamVr is a setting to use different resolution instead of the default. I would like to test that since full default resolution is simply more than my system can handle
(4770K @4.5 GHz 16 Gb RAM 2070Super). I have read that the G2 can use half resolution but I fear that it to low. From SteamVR I get the impression that it can be changed to all kind of levels, or?

SteamVR doesn't work well with the G2 and MSFS.

Download this and tune the resolution scale as you like: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/openxr-developer-tools-for-windows-mixed-reality/9n5cvvl23qbt

It turned out I already have that installed but it is unclear how to use it. I don't notice any difference when changing resolution scale

There is a difference both in performance and quality. Make sure that WMR is the default OpenXR API

Then set the custom resolution scale in the Developer settings tab.

I recommend you to keep motion reprojection disabled.

I have now tried with settings 100 and 50. And I find it hard to see any difference in the resolution. Also there seem to be little change in performance. Maybe slightly more stutter with 100. Only clear change I could see was that displayed fps was about double with 50.
I first start OpenXR Developer Tools and then MSFS. After MSFS is ready to fly I switch to VR. Also I exit and restart the tool between changes

I recommend to set the the render scale in OpenXR DevTool to 50% and in MSFS as high as your system can handle (for crisp small text in guages). And also 'Use latest preview Open XR Runtime' to OFF for a more smooth experience. The resolution scale within MSFS will show you exactly what the final resolution is to be rendered.

That made things worse. My experience is that the best approach is to set 100% in DevTool and 50% in MSFS and work from there

Very good, your milage did vary 🙂

Just to be clear. Is sufficient I use this tools once and then it set the settings in WMR ? Or need I to run it every time I wish to use VR in order to make its settings active ?

When you change resolution in the tools app, you have to close and reopen WMR app.
