I would be grateful for some help with an issue I am having with Gizmo.

The recent Win10 update seemed to screw up some of my permissions and passwords. When I loaded X-Plane Gizmo threw a fit and said it could not connect and that my licence was invalid. I could not load any X-Aviation plane and even  if I cancelled the Gizmo warning it kept coming back.

I therefore re downloaded and re installed the TorqueSim Islander which will now load. However Gizmo is constantly consuming 1.5 fps when no X-Aviation product is being used? If I load the Islander Gizmo stops using any resources. This was not the case before.

I contacted support and had a quick reply saying this is normal behaviour and that 1.5 FPS is reasonable. But surely a constant 1.5 FPS isn't reasonable if no X-Aviation plane I is running? I'm sure it wasn't like this before. I thought customer support must have misunderstood and replied but have heard nothing further.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes windows 10 updates seem to cause numerous issues theses days

As for Gizmo mines says 0 fps hit but that may well be PC dependent, though I dont know what ver of Gizmo you are running I think its out of beta which I was running for a while. Win 10 updates occasionally change the PC hardware ID, dumb and stupid but it does, and some developers use that as part of the license hence the issue with the licence update.

I'd say that perfectly normal....

for something silently mining crypto currency in the background.

meanwhile, in the open source world

I hope you didn't pour water on him!

Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.

Are you sure no Gizmo related add ons are running?  Also, if the update is big enough, Gizmo will see the Windows update as a new operating system or machine. So you need to de-authorise the previous OS, and authorise the new one.

Thanks for your reply. Definitely no Gizmo related add ons running. I only have two. The Islander and the CRJ.

How do I de-authorise and re-authorise the OS?

Could well be. It wasn't just Gizmo. Two of my email accounts stopped working along with some product update clients. I also seemed to lose most of my stored passwords.

If you asked on there website the answer is there. Simply it will give you a list of I think 3 authorized IDS, just delete the eldest and it will create a new.

I can only read half of the conversation because I can´t read what jarmstro (and some others) write, and I am not ready to re-enable that quite yet to protect my sanity 🙄

The DRM used with some products using Gizmo will allow their products to be run on 3 different computers (called "machines"). The DRM assigns a unique ID to every computer by its combination of hardware and operating system. So if you change a major hardware component or the operating system (a major Windows upgrade counts towards that), the DRM "thinks" that you are trying to run the product on a new computer (machine).

Since only 3 machines are allowed, it will ask you to delete one of the 3 existing ones, to make room for the "new" one. Since one of the 3 existing ones is your "pre Windows update" computer, it is safe to "freeze" (disable) that one.

Just make sure you don´t "freeze" one of the other ones by accident (like maybe your laptop that you also use) - I avoid that by giving my "Machines" unique names.

There is also a safeguard built in, so you can´t "freeze" the machine you are currently on.

Cheers, Jan

Edit: For the record - Gizmo itself has no DRM, DRM only comes into play when designers selling their Gizmo-powered product elect to use it.

Gizmo, the scripting language, lies dormant in the plugins folder unless you're running an add on that uses Gizmo's code.  The CRJ uses C/C++.

If you're running X-Plane, and NOT running the Islander, GIzmo will not be running.  Do you, by any chance, have Skymaxx?

On top of Jan said about the DRM, here is a video detailing activations.

No, I am not using Skymax Pro. Gizmo is definitely running and using 1.5fps according to the sim with the Toliss loaded. If I knew how I'd post a screenshot. Something happened after the latest Win10 update. I'll try deleting it and reinstalling again when I get the chance.

With the sim running, go to the plugin drop down menu, and select plugin admin.  Click on, I think it's the second tab.  That will give you a pie chart and some performance numbers underneath.  Post an image of that.

I've uninstalled the Windows update and restored back a few days and it's fixed. Thanks for your comments. That update was a menace. It wasn't just Gizmo by any means! Email accounts trashed. Update clients no longer functioning. Unable to access the MSFS marketplace, Saved passwords for automatically logging on to sites like this gone. Absolutely infuriating.

I've turned off auto updates and will do them manually from now on!! KB5001330 was the offending update.
