The problem is there are people (you'll find them on the official Flight Simulator forum;) who would actually buy and download this nonsense.

You can't blame these people, many are new to this hobby and have no idea about the dark side of these flight sim add-ones third party shops comparing to folks have been in this hobby for years. And unfortunately third party scammers are taking advantage of that, with a help of shops like Simmarket 😕

One of the threads on the "official" forum (for "official" read "censored") was "Why are there no animated trains in MSFS"

It was at this point that I stopped reading the official forum. It's obvious to me where MSFS is going and it ain't in the flying direction!

Ah, now I get what you are talking about.

But many franchises also maintain their own forums (Official Flight Simulator forum, just to name one) and would the same not apply there? (I.e. you can´t talk too bad about MSFS in the official MSFS forum?)

If you want a community where you can "freely" speak about a product, it needs to be unaffiliated with that product (i.e not sell it), I agree with you about that.

There are certain independent communities that cater to the need for independent discussion about X-Plane and associated payware, like reddit, facebook groups, and of course - avsim!

I don´t think that the .org is really strict with criticism towards the products they sell, however, as long as it stays reasonable and civilized.

Regardless, some want to enjoy sceneries, some want to fly, some want to have fun.

I know I should feel guilty, but I voted for this. In my (small) mind, trains add a lot to the VFR experience in X-Plane.

No, and even the tracks are barely visible, which is a real drawback if you want to use them for navigation.

Nope but XP does and it nice when you fly VFR or even on approach. And I voted for that feature request as well 😅

Right, that store is like the Matrix, constantly trying to convince you that no relationship exists. You have to hand it to them, they did a pretty good job of doing so given the posters in here. When you are doing business like that, it creates a sort of automatic contract, hence you can claim to a court that no relationship exists, but in the end the court doesn't ONLY care about how you define a relationship contractually, but they also care about what type of push/pull relationship or unintended influence may exist as a power metric. Hence, IBM and Intel can form a "secret partnership" and claim no contracts or relationships exist and no such affiliation is present, but that's the oldest trick in the book. Or I can go work for an employer and they can tell me I'm a contractor, but if they treat me like an employee, it doesn't matter what their employment contract says, legally the contract would be re-defined by the courts.

Of course with such small companies, smaller companies can get away with a lot more, because no-one cares or has time to examine the issue.

So true, the masses don't care about RNAV or critical features, or landing smoothness, but they vote for things like hey there is this watermask in the middle of the Indian ocean and only 80% of the area is covered.

Aww c'mon. That's a bit overblown. There will always be unrealistic stuff in any simulation. I remember Santa's sleigh being available all the way back in FS4. You could get Star Trek shuttles in FSX and even P3d. That didn't stop PMDG/A2A/etc from making great sim products for those of us who want them, and we weren't forced to buy the weird/unrealistic stuff to get the good stuff either.

The flight sim platform is a very big tent, and there's room for us hardcore dorks right alongside the guys who just want to donk around.

Jeez, so you are the "hardcore simmer" and we are "gamers"? I am fine with that as long I am enjoying MSFS 😀

I don't moan about FPS nor stutters. I get > 30 fps at KSFO (in the C172) and it's essentially stutter-free, aside occasional loading stutters when entering something like the LA basin. And I don't have a monster system, see sig.

Now, VR is another story where it could need a boost, but on a 2D screen, which most of the folks use, I am pretty satified.
