v4 and v5: constantly CTD

Featured Replies

So every other flight I do I end up crashing to desktop. I have an ultrawide screen that I use for simming, and a 1920x1080 that I use for everything else. Im on a rtx2080ti, i9-10900k @5ghz, 32gb ddr4 @3.2mhz and the sim is installed on a separate samsung evo ssd. My os is win10 home on a nvme m2 ssd. Drivers and windows are updated.

I migrated to MSFS last august, and it's been pretty much rock stable. Every other game or thing I use my pc for is very stable.

I have all the sliders to the max, and I get good fps (didn't check exactly, but it's butter smooth). Very frustrating that this keeps happening.

Andreas, not much info to go on.

  • Addon or default aircraft?
  • Every other flight? So you have successful flights.
  • Does it happen at the same place or many different ones?

Revert to a default aircraft and disable your third party scenery. If it stops then the culprit is in what you’ve disabled.

Some Nvidia drivers caused problems. What version are you running?

What's the Ctd?

DXGI error?

Pausing, spinning cursor and then ctd

Straight ctd with no pause or spinning cursor

Whats in the event viewer

Is it ctd when swapping views too quickly for with chaseplane for example?

Have you installed older ai models.

Theres a million things that can cause ctd.   Need more info I'm afraid

Yeah sorry guys, that I haven't gotten you all the info needed to diagnose the issue. I think the tip of disabling the addons and re-introducing them might be a good one. I'll try that.

The crashes where all over europe. Mostly connected to things like changing from outside view back to the cockpit, or placing my mouse on my google chrome to navigate my browser.

The crashes were sudden, without freezing. Poof, and the sim was gone.

The only airplane I used was the pmdg dc6.

Andreas, try clearing your shader cache. We need to know which Nvidia drivers you have loaded.

Look in Event Viewer. What is the cause of the CTDs?

The fact that PMDG DC-6 is not v5 compatible could obviously make it crash.

Is it known to make the sim crash, though @Rafal?

I have no idea, sorry. I don't use PMDG. Such a conclusion has just come to my head. 😊

Also, I had these crashes in v4 as well.

That might be a different problem. I don't know what your video card memory is, but in P3Dv4 and even more in v5 that does matter quite a lot.

Now the sim seems more stable and doesnt crash.

Your sim is using less VRAM now, I'd guess.

Reading this and your other posts, I'd start by turning HT off, or alternatively by adding an affinity mask that only allows one P3D thread per core (e.g. AM=349525 0x55555).  With your CPU hitting the 90s, I'm suspicious you may have some hardware instability rearing its head as a result of the high temps.
