Reality XP GNS430 TER FAIL (resolved)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Today I discovered that the RXP GNS430 has no map anymore but the message: TER FAIL.
However the 650 works correctly.

I checked the rxpGnsSim.dll.log:
21/06/07 20:58:42.636 08480 INFO ] missing: sys_nand0
21/06/07 20:58:42.680 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH0
21/06/07 20:58:42.683 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH1

And I discovered that ProgramData\Garmin\GNS is empty. After un- and reinstall still the same.
I restored the directory from backup but it looks like it is an incompatible version now: sys_nandd.

I appreciate if someone could provide the link/info how to download the correct GNS data for the current version RXP GNS.

Thanks for help.

Meanwhile I reinstalled the Garmin 400W/500W Series Trainer - WAAS software version 3.00 again but no change.

The GNS misses still the map data base and GTN finds all required map data.

Still the same at:

I checked the rxpGnsSim.dll.log:
21/06/07 20:58:42.636 08480 INFO ] missing: sys_nand0
21/06/07 20:58:42.680 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH0
21/06/07 20:58:42.683 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH1

Appreciate any additional info what to do best.

If you installed to the default locations (RXP and separate Garmin GNS Trainer) those files should be in the following directory, with either C or the letter of your primary system drive starting that path to the folder..  You are either missing the files or the Garmin Trainer is looking for them in a different folder and not finding them.

C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GNS Trainer Data\GNS

When I installed the GNS I just followed the RXP installer's link to Garmin. And I did not change the proposed two locations:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\...
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\....

My understanding: RealityXP products support v3010.
The GTN works with it.
The GNS does not load the data base.

However I searched on C:\ for sys_nand0 as this file is missing. As I am using the trainers for GNT, GNS and D600 there are several locations polluted with the same files.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\G600 Trainer\GDU\nonvol\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\G600 Trainer\GNS\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\GNS Trainer\GNS\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\GNS400W-500W Trainer\Trainer\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\Trainers\Packages\GDU620\data\nonvol\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin v2\Trainers\Packages\GTN\data\nonvol\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\G600 Trainer\GDU\nonvol\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\G600 Trainer\GNS\sys_nand0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS400W-500W Trainer\Trainer\sys_nand0

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\data\nonvol\sys_nand0

Q: Which Garmin installer is required to support RXP GTN and GNS? The v3010?
Q: Where should the missing files (data base) land?

Thanks for help.

As was stated above, you need to look in the ProgramData folder, all you have posted is from the Program Files (X86) folder.

This is where I would go to get a copy of the GNS Trainer:

This is what I find in the two rxpGNS logs:

Looks like I need an RXP update for V5.2.. actually the autopilot is OK..

Again the GNS log:
I checked the rxpGnsSim.dll.log:
21/06/07 20:58:42.636 08480 INFO ] missing: sys_nand0
21/06/07 20:58:42.680 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH0
21/06/07 20:58:42.683 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH1

What I did until now step by step:

Step 1:

Installing for GTS with 400W_500WSeriesTrainer-WAAS_300.exe:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS400W-500W Trainer\Trainer\....
folders were created

Step 2:

GarminTrainerSetup_2710
With Trainer Launcher 2.7.1 and data base 2.6.0
Creating entries for: TXi-, GTNs-, GPS-GDU-Trainer

Created folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers
c:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer\

Search for missing GNS file \sys_nand0 at c:\ProgramData\ shows the following hits:
c:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer\GTN1nonvol\sys_nand0
c:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer\GTN4nonvol\sys_nand0

Step 3:

I uninstalled v2710 and installed v3010

c:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\   (no new entry)

c:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\
c:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GTI\Production\.gti\
c:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Launcher\Manuals\

Search for missing file \sys_nand0 at c:\ProgramData\ shows the following hits:
No

What I like to know is: Which Garmin version is required to run RXP GTN and GNS at P3D 5.1 as the entries are different but use the “same” directories?
Which entries are used and need to be checked for GNS and GTN?

As best I know the GNS and GTN trainers are separate and different.   Trying to somehow bring the two together may be leading to the problems that you are having.

What I would do, is leave the GTN alone if it is working.

Then.

1. Uninstall the GNS trainer

2. Install the GNS trainer from the link I provided above

3. Do not run anything and make NO CHANGES to anything  (entirely skip your Step 2 and 3 above)

5. Reboot your PC

6. Start up an airplane with the GNS 530 in the panel.

21/06/07 20:58:42.683 08480 INFO ] missing: NOR_FLASH1

This is the same log you posted earlier from June 7..

Unless you start up an airplane with the GNS in the panel, this log is not updated.

And.. a new GNS gauge update has been released... Pop up the GNS window, right click at the top, and select Check for Updates..

After GNS update I followed the instruction steps. No change. The GNS reports missing data base at .log:
NOR_FLASH0
NOR_FLASH1
sys_nand0

Next:

I restored the system before GNS & GTN installation and installed everything step by step again.

Step 1: Installing GNS with Garmin trainer, restart PC and check. No data base
Step 2: Installing GNT with Garmin trainer, restart PC and check. Things are OK for GTN but not for GNS.

After I compared the new installation of GNS, GTN including Garmin trainer with my backup which includes an old RXP GNS installation. The backup installation is from 9/2019 P3Dv5.

The structure looks quite different!

 New installation from today:

c:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\GNS\

c:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GNS\
NOR_FLASH0
NOR_FLASH1
sys_nand0

Backup Garmin installed 9/2019

d:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\GNS\
NOR_FLASH0
NOR_FLASH1
sys_nand0

 d:\ProgramData\Garmin\GNS Trainer Data\GNS\
NOR_FLASH0
NOR_FLASH1
sys_nand0

I have no idea any more what to do therefore:

I need to know which GNS Garmin installer must be used as the backup version did work!
Used Garmin installer: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3531
Or Reality XP may update the GNS installer to the current Garmin installation structure or tell in which directory the required data must be.

Hi,

This is quite confusing and you seem to manually manage files but this should be automatic.

First, don't download the aforementioned GNS trainer, instead, just let the RXP software installer figuring out and downloading the correct one.

Then I'd suggest you review the RXP GNS User's Manual > Device Embedded Memory (p20). It explains what there is to know about this.

Last but not least, your backup is indicating "D:". Did you use the RXP GNS environment variables to override the default path?

Hi, thanks for feedback.

Q: you seem to manually manage files but this should be automatic
A: No, I did just run the GNS installation. And after installation the Garmin
400W/500W Series Trainer - WAAS software version 3.00 installer for the GNS. From the GNS installation I could not recognize that the trainer was installed. Should I uninstall it?

Q: Unser manual p.20: A:
This info I missed. Sorry.
Manual: The new installation misses the outlined directory on p.20.
I installed and uninstalled the GNS 3 times and every time the dir was missing.

Only my backup installation from 2019 shows it:

d:\ProgramData\Garmin\GNS Trainer Data\GNS\
NOR_FLASH0
NOR_FLASH1
sys_nand0

Q: Last but not least, your backup is indicating "D:"
A: No the backup program is just using a drive letter to access the contend of the backup.
I do not change anything during installation. I run the installer just as it goes.

My Q: Should I just copy the files from backup to c:\ProgramData\Garmin\GNS Trainer Data\GNS\ ?

You can try it.. what puzzles me is that you say it still works in P3Dv4 which would use the same GNS trainer, sucessfully..
