simply fully uninstalled 5.1 & fully installed 5.2 to same P3D directory,

worked a treat!

Yep, exactly what I did... no complications... worked perfectly...

For the very first time ever my installation failed.

I did what you did. But no planes show in preview and nothing happens when I try to load, just a blank screen with the new white writing.

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

I assume for those who don't use the addon xml method for all addons - we need to make a backup of the scenery.cfg file? And maybe also the terrain.cfg?

Anything else?

Backup at minimum:

C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\

add-ons.cfg
scenery.cfg
scenery_add-ons.xml

and

%appdata%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\add-ons.cfg.

What helps is if most of your addons are via xml.

Thanks and I can just copy them back and override with no worries?

If most of your addons are xml-based, yes you can. Helps to create backups of current versions before overwriting (renaming the existing works just fine in case you need to revert).

Keep us posted on progress

Kind regards
